Asking a Hollywood trainer if his clients and potential clients are on steroids is like asking a lawyer if his clients are guilty. Mike, of course, he's going to deny it.

He's a bullshitter. He's was handed daddy's money to start gyms and then got lucky his buddy knew Hugh Jackman and passed him off to him. I'm sure he's an OK trainer(not saying much considering most trainers are shit) but he's probably worried that Mike would go in depth on actual training. He would be exposed as mediocre, lucky Mike was more focused on the topic of the celebrity training industry itself instead of actual training.

The deadlift thing is not actually that impressive. Maybe for the average person but not for a serious, super experienced lifter. @@--SPQR-- At that many reps a 1RM calculator is going to be pretty inaccurate, so 645 is definitely not his 1RM. So, hes either lying about the gear, the gear is being used outside of his knowledge....or somehow all the hollywood actors just magically have 98th percentile genetics. So much of this was just rambling about diet and lifestyle when they full and well know thats not the difference. Nor is it the effort. The timelines just arent feasible. 3-6 months for most of them? Dont insult our intelligence. They have transformations that dedicated lifters dont see after training for their FIRST several YEARS even with the perfect training, lifesytle and nutrition. And dont even get me started on the "its the lighting and camera angles" nonsense like we dont have eyes.
@bryanlewis5233
@bryanlewis5233 3 ай бұрын
There's definitely a shit ton of people on gear, but I think you sarcastically brought up a good point that a lot of people don't consider. "Somehow all the Hollywood actors just magically have 98th percentile genetics"-doesn't that... kinda make sense that that would be true? Millions of people flock to Hollywood to try to make it big, and then Hollywood gets to winnow that down to the best of the best. Since they're selecting for good looks and fitness is a huge part of good looks, it follows that you're incidentally selecting for good fitness genes.
@taylorhillard4868
@taylorhillard4868 3 ай бұрын
@@bryanlewis5233 except that most of these actors were selected before they had any physiques whatsoever. You can't select for a trait that's not observable. It'd be like trying to crossbreed roses for a particular color but none of them have ever flowered before.....so you can't know what color they are to even attempt to breed a new one. In the same way prettymuch all of the Hollywood fitness actors today did not look like anything when they became famous except the Rock. Hugh Jackman had a Dad-bod in the first X-men movies. Kumail Nanjiani in his older movie roles was a stereotypical nerd build that has never set foot in a gym. Et cetera and so on. They were all average to even below average before they suddenly blew up in almost no time at all.

@@taylorhillard4868 Right, but you just mentioned the people that are 100% obviously geared to the gills. No argument from me there. But that doesn't mean the Hollywood system doesn't also naturally select for good genes. I'm absolutely not trying to cover up or deny that gear is RAMPANT in Hollywood, just trying to argue that maybe it's not so crazy to think famous celebs are in fact high percentile for genetic predisposition to fitness because they literally work in a field where people are selected for their desirable qualities like they're dogs being bred. Maybe we're talking past each other a bit. It seems like you're mostly talking about the Marvel types who are making these wildly unnatural transformations (and I totally agree that's 99.999% down to gear) whereas I'm talking a little more generally (and I'm not arguing the people you're mentioning are the ONLY people on gear either). Ultimately I think we're both on the same side that it's silly for normies to try to use Hollywood training as some sort of model to aspire to because it's not accounting for the other massive advantages these people have-certainly gear but also money, time, and (I'd argue) good genetics-that aren't being talked about in whatever random shit Men's Health is trying to get trending this week.

This is one of the best interviews I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot of them) for the simple fact that he _constantly_ asked for the connective tissue between the thing the interviewee glossed over. So many interviewees, even if not consciously, bounce around topics. The "Exercise Scientist" constantly interrupts the trainer, in a absolutely perfect way, and makes him explain how he got from point A to point B. Most interviewers would just ignore those gaps. Truly refreshing for the interviewer to be like, "wait a second, how did you go from training golfers to celebrities?" and similar.

About a year ago, I was 450 lbs, after about 300 days I began to plateau at around 385 with just intermittent fasting, so I began powerlifting (because I enjoy it and I have the requisite equipment in my garage). I'm still around 385 but I am much stronger and my measurements are going down. It is frustrating to not see the weight loss but it helps to see and feel the strength increases. It's also nice to know that slow progress is still good progress. That really helps. Thank you.

He’s been adamant that actors purely just need to look big and jacked for their roles, which is mostly true while the cameras are rolling. But if they have tons of stunts and action stuff they’re not used to, it helps to be able to move, too. These actors are just grown up theater geeks after all. Found that interesting.
