My father had one, I loved it. I used to sit in the driving seat in the garage and just marvel at the futuristic dashboard and all the electronics, especially the digital speedometer. That was the height technological progress back then!

I had a 25 Monaco in 1994. Mine was a 87 E reg, brought it salvage, and put the V6 front end on it. Being a big barge of a car insurance was cheap for a 18 year old. One thing that still sticks in my mind is trying to sit in that interior after the car has been parked out in the sun all day, We’d have to leave the doors open for at least 15 minutes before you dared get in!!! Great car though, drove exactly as this video says. Very comfortable car to drive, and had a great sounding stereo system from factory. Also incredibly good on fuel, I’d easily get 35+ to the gallon (when fuel was 53p per litre!!) Loved the car though, hence why talking about it now 26 years later!!!

These were better as an automatic, suited their character better. Once drove mine 3700km from Melbourne to Perth across the Australian desert. Was a nice comfortable trip :)

Such a great car absolutely love it. Big and to be driven like being in a hurry but always comfy. One of Robert Opron's creations and the dashboard by Marcello Gandini. I prefer this first model much above after the design after the facelift.

Brilliant car I had 3 comfy and fast loads of space in the boot.

Yeah I forgot to go into that - the boot is massive! and the seats go down very elegantly - Aaron

Not the most reliable cars but were easy to fix and the 2.9 V6 Baccara was very nice.

I wonder if you have the seat in the right position; it does not look like! I am 1.89 and have no problem at all with the space. The steering wheel has a handle below to adjust it a bit (up and down) as well.

You're right Jos, I forgot about the steering wheel tilt! I might have another go at finding a good position. I do think the seat is too small though - Aaron

Autoboxes... The issue was not the gearbox. But the computer that controlled it. You could buy an aftermarket computer that required to be wired in. Not an easy job. But it sorted out all the issues and was quite popular in the time.

Good fun to watch and nice to see someone enjoy it for what it was supposed to be. The constant comparing of cars to German versions has led manufacturers to make them all more Germanic and they lose their individuality. To the point the c5 was advertised as German (made in France). Are you sure the steering column doesn’t adjust? I thought they all did?
@EGMedia14 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You're so very right about that, and it's a shame about the cars we've lost really. p.s. yes, forgot about the steering column tilt! - Aaron

I've had a 21 Monaco and a 25 Monaco, both E reg. 21 much nimbler, 25 big car feel, both so comfortable, great handling, reliable and fully loaded for the time, so good, much missed.

From looking at the DVLA site this seems to be now scrapped. What a pity. There are only around 4 roadworthy 25 Monacos in the uk, and 2 that I know of in Ireland

I had a 2.9 V6, had a longer gearbox, it would do 3000 rpm at 120 km/h. It was 1000 rpm at 40 km/h in 5th, and you then add 10 km/h for each 500 rpm. V6 were heavier 1360 kg, and had shorter (stiffer) front springs. Fabulous car, but impossible to maintain where I live. Also very thirsty in urban driving with a V6.

3500 rpm at 70 is a bit revvy. Especially by today's diesel standards. My own car is doing something like 1850 rpm at a true 70 mph.

@@TheJcman72 yup, but the roads are much better now than they were in the 60s!

@@EGMedia1 but that car is from the 80's and I know those roads since the 70's and I never saw any issue on them. Certainly much better than any country around.
@EGMedia1 Жыл бұрын
@@TheJcman72 the point was more that poor roads in the past set a tradition of soft-riding cars in France, not that the roads are poor now (or even when later cars were made).
