Great video, thanks. It gave me the confidence to tackle the job. Your oven temp of around 160C is about right. Just hot enough so the new bearing can be tapped home without too much brute force, but not so hot that it really fries the bearing grease. Getting the old bearing out was impossible though, mine was rusted in. But it wasn't a big issue as I was replacing the drums as well, I just wanted the old bearing to use as a drift to drive the new one home. I made my own drift out of an old steel pipe in the end.

Done many of these myself and finally went on-line to machine mart and bought myself a bearing press. I think I paid £130 ??. Best bit of kit I have bought and has since saved me hours trying the old methods. Sometimes you just cant beat having the right tool. Really enjoyed this video matey. Keep them coming... :)

Hi Martin, another great vid gonna do mine soon, have got a drum with decent bearing from my local scrap yard. My thought is to just replace the drum and the faulty one I take off drift the bearing out at my own pace never done it so wanted to keep the car on the road in case I run into trouble, at least I will have a blue Peter one ready to go on when needed lol

Another good job Martin. I notice you never wear overalls. I wear them ,and I'm still rotten when I've finished a job. I don't think I'll be laying my lump hammer into our new oak worktop though. Not unless I wanna face a firing squad in the morning. Haha . All the best. Rob.

So they can work themselves loose? Youve got a torque wrench as long as you do it up to the correct torque its not gonna be too hard to undo. Lube of any kind on road wheel nuts is dangerous.
@skylined5534
@skylined5534 8 ай бұрын
@@vector198 Common practice. I've been doing that for well over 25 years and never had ONE issue. Lubricant on the threads isn't going to overcome the torque setting and allow it to loosen and in many cases lubricant on the thread allows the correct torque to be reached in the fastener and not to arrive at a false setting via binding.

I never have any luck with the cold bearing hot drum always gets stuck, buying a 12ton bearing press years ago was money well spent, I was thinking that earlier, pressing out rear wheel bearings on a corsa c made light work of it, the bearing was out and in quicker than I took the drum off.

sometimes when the hubs are stubbon to pull of, try putting the whell back on with 2 bolts and use the whell as extra leverage. they usually pull off then.

Nice one Martin. The old tricks are the best tricks. Were you cooking that egg pie in the oven at the same time lol. Also I'm very tempted in getting a presss but can't justify it would help me out load though! Saw that cheeky extra tweak after you torqued the hub nut. I do it all the time too, you can't always trust them engineers who worked them out on a computer, they have probably never changed a wheel in their life lol.

Hope you chucked a chicken in there with that hub . Top work , I never like hitting new bearings in but if you haven't got a press no other way really , you can use a bottle jack and wedge the hub inside something . 👍🏻

Ohh, yes, love the problems, but your freezer? Did I hear right...-.8? like -1c? That's nothing, mine is -10c all the time. So, maybe wasn't frozen enough? I saw on Mustie1 YT is discontinuing video editor, he was looking for suggestions for a simple one. I'm NOT a video editor, have not a use for it. I did hear a bark out there, any chance for vids with Barney and Bison?

Do you ever get 'days' where everything goes wrong? I get 'months' like that, owning a mk2 megane, :-) It's a pain in the ass trying to get bearings in straight sometimes, had a similar problem with fitting a humble driveshaft oil seal on a mk2 megane with the boxon the car, piece of piss off the car, just wouldn't go in even with a perfect sized drift, 2 and a half hours it took! Just kept popping out when you thought it was in. There should be a law youtube videos shouldn't be edited! Keep in the parts with the swearing, kicking the dog, kicking the misses, misses kicking you back, tools getting thrown, hands getting slashed etc.... :-)
