Exhaust air flap on Renault Grand scenic mk3 110hp Diesel not working properly.
FIXED with WD40 and working the spring and washer up and down *carefully* to free it.

My 2013 grand scenic has got anti pollution and check injection system light on checked exhaust flap seems to move freely but start the engine and it doesn't move but moves when you turn it off any ideas thanks

Have you had it diagnosed? What are the fault codes?

Great video, thanks! I already treated it with wd40, error codes erased, but now have a whisthling noise. I notice it happens in lower gear, city drive. What could it be?

The valve is closed if it is whistling. Try moving it the other way if you can. Probably means it isn't actually working. From what I've googled, the valve is only used during a regen faze.

I can move the spring easily. When I push it up, it goes down. But when I push it all the way up, it gets stuck. Like there is some kind of notch. Should it be that way? Or the valve gets stuck when spring is in that position?

I honestly haven't got a clue. I think that spring is what the motor is supposed to move, I think it has become detached somehow, so a resting place might be what you've hit. There is a video on KZbin where a guy takes the valve apart. You might get an idea from there. I'll see if I can find it in my history.

Hi, where on the exhaust is this? Underneath or back of Engine?

Near the middle of the front wheels. Look at your exhaust under the car and you'll see the mechanism.

This is exactly whats happening to mine!!! Mines in limp mode as well, can it be taken off without having to remove the whole exhaust??

Naw it needs cutting out if you're replacing it. It's a £250 part. But if the exhaust is fine the valve can probably be freed up with a bit of persuasion.

Give it a good soak in DW40 and gently work it up and down. It looks like it can be broken easy. I had the engine running and heard the sound change as I moved it. But once I shut the car down then restarted. It moved itself and put the spanner light off. Almost a year later i have had no problems so far with it. If you have diagnostic equipment (I have Renault clip) you should see its open value which should be around 60% on tickover. Accelerating it should be 90%.

how did you trigger it to move electrically?

I used a cloned version of Renault can clip. There are other diagnostic tools that'll do it too. But it should move when you first cycle the ignition and then again when you shut the ignition off.

@@dustysweeper Makes sense, I was chasing this intermittent "check anti-pollution system" error for a while, it luckily came on after first start when taking it to the mechanic. Lots of WD40 on it now so hopefully fixed.

I got check injection system ,got it scanned came up exhaust flap, put 1 on,still same,got timing belt done,and was fine b4 it,any wires in about that area,to check thanks

If you renewed the flap, the ECU requires a few hundred miles to learn the new values if they weren't correctly ajusted via diagnostics. But having the timing belt done shouldn't cause this unless something was disconnected from the EGR system. Hope that helps.👍

What I have read via the Renault forums is the ECU needs to learn the values from different driving conditions. Have it scanned again, it could be something else. I highly recommend investing 80 quid on a cloned CanClip, it pointed me right to the problem and let me change some settings.
