Infamous Nissan 1.6dci exhaust valve. This One seems to work. They tend to get stuck and throw p1480 code. The purpose of it is probably heat up the dpf when it's time to selfclean the filter.

I had the same problem on my Qashqai (1.6dci J10). Fault code P1485 and Yellow Engine light on my dashboard. After ignoring and constantly clearing the code, the problem persisted and after 4-5 months the engine sounded very noisy. I decided to inspect the issue and get more details. After spraying the valve with a Brake Cleaner and using a toothbrush I saw that there was a movement up and down (using a screwdriver) but the spring was frozen into place. I saw in your video that the valve goes back by itself after releasing the screwdriver. Then I added more WD40 and Lubricant spray on the spring and tried to constantly move up and down with the screwdriver. Took me about 200 up and down cycles (with the screwdriver) and constantly spraying with WD40 to clean the valve mechanism. Now it goes back by itself after moving it forward. Problem solved and THANK you for the uploaded video. Now I am thinking how to protect the whole mechanism from salt and dirt because Nissan engineers didn't considered it to be a problem :)

Salutare!

I did this too, and after a few weeks or days it would seize up again. Now it's completely frozen.

As mentioned above this valve should spring back into place, if it doesn't then you will continue to get an error code / EML. Lots of penetration fluid around the Axel and spring as well as constantly opening/closing the valve till it springs back and moves freely with ease. EML should clear after a good run and the car goes into DPF regen/purge mode.

yep, it has been year or so and i have noticed the slight power hesitation at motorway speed, it's usually always this valve as it's trying to actively control the exhaust circulation and even slight sticking causes it to fail in that adjustment and it effects engine power as it gets too much exhaust gasses. I have to loosen it up again.

Nice clip. The valve is meant to spring back on it's own when the engine is off when you'll move it. Due to the carbon deposits inside the pipe the spring on the outside fails. The electronic valve detects that the exhaust valve is not returning. I know it looks like it's working.

yes, I was thinking that should it return by the spring force or not. It was kinda stiff at first, but felt like it loosened up after turning it by hand for couple of times. One way to clean the sooth would be to drill a hole to the pipe at suitable position and spray crc gasket cleaner inside the pipe. I have used it to clean engine parts and it removes all the sooth and it can even remove paint and old gasket remains. Then just plug the drilled hole with a bolt or something.

James Parus There's a risk of exhaust leaks or not freeing up the valve if exhaust pipe is drilled. That valve only assist the EGR system. I'm still getting 48.6 mpg on fuel consumption and emissions have not changed plus no fault code.
@JamesParus7 жыл бұрын
yes it could be for EGR as this 1.6dci has that low pressure EGR, so exhaust is recirculated after the DPF. When the valve is closed it would increase the circulation and when it's open the circulation would be less. When I have suitable time I could try removing it and fixing the valve open.

James Parus good luck as I tried everything to loosen it up even heated up. Only manage to make it moved back slowly on it's own. There's simply to much heat and coldness there.

The procedure that might help to free this is to remove the EGR-valve motor and try to ease upo the movement of the valve by hand. See also the link which discusses this problem and procedure further: forum.qashqaiclub.co.uk/faultcode-p1485-r9m-16dci-engine_topic16097.html.

Does the egr flap sometimes cause the engine to rattle when starting ? Only when engine is hot or warm. I've changed timing chain and oil pump which improved the noise alot but (it was rattling all the time), now just occasionally. Noise is definitely coming from the rear of the engine, egr side.
@JamesParus5 жыл бұрын
Not sure about rattle. But mine sometimes made clanking sound after starting. Cold weather and cold engine. I think it was injectors making sound as filling up with cleaning burning high cetane diesel solved it. Maybe dirty injector. You could try diesel injector cleaner. ?

Hi.i have the exactly same problem. My valve is stack .yellow fault code engine turn on. When to Nissan. They said must replace the hole part of exhaust. 600 Euro bill. Is there any way to fix this or I must pay the bill? By the way after some time of using the car with the problem now I have new error speed limiter not working...

below Chris commented that it's possible to remove the servo from the bolts and somehow left that valve open. And bolt the servo back so it doesn't effect the valve. This way ECU could turn the servo and be happy even it doesn't effect the actual valve. I haven't tried that.

Hi, i have same prob it's blocked, I have p1485 error, do you think its because of exauht valve ?
@JamesParus6 жыл бұрын
Sef Guemart it's possible. No harm to spray some lubricant to the spring and turn it by hand. It can be reached under the driver side. If you drive the front wheel to some high place it's then accessible. At least to spray with wd40 straw.
