Another René Herse convert, over here. Been running their Hurricane Ridge knobbies for two years now and it is an amazing ride.

Don't need to go tubeless to enjoy these.

If you use tubes are you choosing a specific type of tube?

I have a fitness hybrid bike, it has 32mm super slick and fast tires. I live by many gravel trails. I usually ride my mountain bikes on them. I wanted more confidence on these trails and speed so I went to my local bike shop and told them what I wanted. I thought I was going to be recommended an aggressive tred tire like mountain bikes. They recommend the Barlow pass 38mm . In my head I was like, these are slick and I already have slick fast wheels. How are these going to be better for gravel. The shop owner broke down how these will be better for our gravel trails than heavy tred tires. They were right, these wheels hugged the ground, cut through soft spots, and felt like a cloud. I couldn’t believe how well they gripped the trail. It was night and day, the 6mm bigger tire was noticeable even though I couldn’t go wider bc of frame limitations. I feel very little loss in speed on the road. I’m a fan of these tires now.

These are made by Panaracer and are very similar to their slick Gravel King design. I would definitely buy Rene Herse tires again but probably the endurance casing to make sure they seal up better and last longer as tubeless

I have the 700x48 Hatcher Pass, Endurance Casing on my gravel bike and they are the most comfortable tire I've ever had on any bike. I've taken them on road, gravel, and green MTB trails and have never had a single puncture. 10/10 worth the money. Considering trying their 700x55 Fleecer Ridge on an XC bike next!

I’m sure those “higher volume” all road tires ride amazingly. I honestly couldn’t believe how soft my smaller 700x38c tires felt. I would look down at my tires and see if they were low on air but they remained inflated to 35psi. I have run higher volume 700x50c tires that didn’t feel as smooth. It’s nice to hear the endurance casing tires ride that well.

Sounds like we're traveling similar paths. I've ridden my 700 X 48 Hatcher Pass Endurance slicks for a year with no issues. I ride them tubeless at 25 psi which works great for my 7.2 Kg bike and my 70 Kg weight. I ride this bike on gravel, some road and easy single-track. Interestingly, I'm also looking at RH's 55 mm knobbies for my XC bike. Did you go that route and how is it?

650b would solve your toe overlap and Rene H make that size too

I’ve thought about a 650b wheel set but ended up getting a warranty on my Seven Sola and built up a new custom Evergreen. No overlapping with the new geo and fork

I can't say enough about buying a $10.00 garden sprayer from Home Depot for $10.00 to seat tubeless tires. Works every time. Add some soapy water around both sides of rim before releasing air. I've seated 27.5x3.25/4.0" tires down to 43mm. These are supple but fragile. I've yet to try the Endurance casing. Expensive at over $100 plus with shipping. I'm sticking with Gravelkings for all round peace of mind. The Endurance casing looks similar to Gravelkings.

I’m not familiar with a “garden sprayer” from Home Depot but that sounds pretty interesting. I use a Bontrager Charger pump. I also use the soapy water around the rim and that works well on most of my tires and wheel sets. Just every once in a while I get a tire that needs more attention so I have a few hacks. As for the Gravel Kings, I get those most of the time but I just wanted to try the Rene’ Herse.

I Wait till no one is watching and put the whole wheel in the shower - warm water helps the bead jump on.

Running the endurance of these in seriously nasty rocky chunck stuff with zero issues the ultralights are a different story in the durability dept.

They definitely take more attention to detail to get them set up properly and maintained. Tubes will never go “out of fashion” some newer materials used in tubes make them much more durable and expensive than the old fashion rubber tubes. Personally I enjoy tinkering with my bikes and the satisfaction of having a smoother rolling tubeless tire/wheel set.
