I am post surgery almost 4 weeks I am out of the sling and my arm is finally down. Super weird and I can feel how week it is but I’ve been doing some minor movement haven’t started the PT yet but I’m like you and very athletic and active how long before you started to actually lift your arms above your head and to the side lol 😂 you know what I’m talking about because I’m sure you had limited movement in the beginning. Also when did you start PT I feel like I should already be doing it myself

@@the_pirate_king I never got the surgery. If you saw my update video. I decided that I didn’t want to take the time off for a proper post surgery recovery. I basically felt fine a week after the ruptured tendon and was doing fine but with less weight two weeks after. Obviously I won’t have the full strength and functionality that you will achieve but I’ve been ok with that.

I’ve read where you need to get this repaired within 3 to 4 weeks otherwise the bicep will shrink and fray and be very difficult to reattach

@@jeffg5989 this is correct. John Elway waited for the season to finish and remained QB with his injury. This was a rare occasion that most surgeons would have not done. Consult with your surgeon and he will exam and be able to do some preliminary diagnostics to determine if the tendon has shortened beyond repair.

Had a proximal tear Christmas Day. Just saw my doctor since to get referral for surgeon and talk about which procedure to do. I play golf so I’ve read where I need to get it fixed and not just let it go. Good luck

@@Ernestino4212 I always wanted to get a Merlin. Amazing frames! Hadley hubs are very finely crafted in small batches. I have been able to find bearings,paws,and seals plus they always keep making their hubs with the same specs for many years. I obviously have other brands but know Hadley’s have wider flanges than most the only one that comes close is ONYX and that’s twice the price.

I have been riding 27.5xc, merida carbon for many years (when 27.5 was introduced as the latest specification), and now it has competition-level equipment, including dt carbon fiber wheelsets, 32sc factory and dropper post, mt8 brakes, which may be inferior in super-technical terrain, but I enjoy climbing fast on the fire escape and doing some rapid descent.😅

I’m the one going DH and it should be pulling over. He was climbing up and had didn’t need to pull over but even when I’m climbing, I’m not going to stay right in the center of a narrow trail in front of a descending biker. Just as common sense to provide room to pass each other.

@@scottholm7865 If I went Stanton it would be the Ti Sherpa. Seems like the better choice for my ENVE rigid fork and running wider rims with bigger tires like 29x3” on i40 rims. The amazing thing about Neuhaus Hummingbird is all the sizes and the custom selection of steel tubing he uses. It would be slightly heavier than Ti but probably worth it and have a better feel.

@@chuckrodgers4780 it’s funny you should mention Jones’s bikes. I truly think Jone’s bikes are amazing and the fact he has the truss fork, 150x15 front hub spacing, Alt bars and the fork specifically for the size of frame is what makes them impressive. If I were to buy a Jones I would have to go all in and get the Ti Jones Plus Spaceframe with Truss fork, Alt bars, Jones carbon rims and Magura brakes.

The axle that came with my Esker Japhy broke. It wasn’t a Wolf Tooth or RobertAxle. I’m just curious if your original axle also had an issue. Or did you just replace the original axle as a precaution? I was really surprised when mine broke, never thought it could just snap like it did. I replaced mine with a Wheels Manufacturing axle.

Thats funny, I bought a Revel Tirade ti hardtail frame on sale and before even buying it i had my wheels and tires in mind. I love the Ibis 35mm wide rims and have had great luck with them. I haven't had much luck with most tires except Maxxis....but right now I'm riding Bontrager xr4's with decent experience so far. Maybe I'll try the new Forekaster in Exo+(there is no DH casing). You can get a custom steel frame built from Cutrlo in Winthrop, Washington state for under 2k, his website says like 1600 but not sure how many he builds anymore.

I run 19-20 psi in the rear and 14 up front on my plus tire. If I’m out in your area I go to 23psi rear. I weigh 190. Usually I take a little off when I get to the top. With lower psi I give it the old squeeze test😁

@@mikej1348 my friends that ride faster than me, most of them on full squishy rigs and they plow through rocks and bad lines with conviction. They keep 25psi with double wall casing tires. I have torn sidewalls and bent many rims trying to stay with their lines. CushCore has helped but it’s not a “free pass”

@ just out of curiosity. Why are you running the Cushcore in the front? Is it for weight balance with the rear? I had it on the rear of my plus bike and the balance was off and it felt like I put lead in the tire. If I get back into using inserts I want to try a newer lighter offerings in the market.

@ I didn’t run CC in front in the beginning but started running it in front when I got a slow leak in my front tire and wished I could keep going. It also protects my rims.I also like the way they allow me to run lower air pressure for sandy trails. I guess it just boils down to an extra layer of security. Flatting a front tire on a real fast steep descent is a disaster and I have done this once and will never forget how hard I rag dolled. *This was before CushCore was invented

I like your ideas about the Teravail tires. I noticed the industry is giving less options for 27.5 plus tires. I will probably eventually have to downsize to standard 27.5 with a tire insert. I like the smaller wheels for maneuverability and my riding style. I tried Cushcore before but they were heavy in the plus size for just the rear. I’m not running any tire insert now. [By the way you should try the Backbone trail off Newton Canyon in the Santa Monica Mtns. There are some beautiful views and flow trails too]

@ thanks, I’ve ride Cheseboro and some of those other trails around there at had tacos at Chuy’s afterwards. Lots of fun trails out there. If I recall correctly we rode all the way back to the “Sheep corral” and found some back country trails in those mountains that were pretty nice.

I love my Esker Japhy Single Speed, I built it for the full body workout for a 1-2 hour ride as I am time poor during the week. I want to start using it for long rides and bikepacking races also.

@@dgriffinm Sidi on clipless is such a great combo. I’m probably going to try a 30t chainring eventually. Not sure if I push a 20t cog but I have a really nice Absolute Black 20t cog I was able to use on my Seven Sola just because it was so light.

For me the travel question was easy. Ride your favorite trails and run the manufacturers recommended air psi for your fork. Check how much travel you use, add 1/4-1/2 inch for safety and that’s all the travel that you need. For me the answer for my weight and style of riding is 140mm. I infrequently bottom out.

I was looking at the Teravail Honcho tire but they only go to 27.5 x2.6. I like plus tires but for the rear it seems like the Rekon is one of the few good options at 27.5x2.8. Teravail has a 2.8 but it seems to be a bike packing tire. I also did not see a list of weights on the tires on there website.

@@mikej1348 I got some discontinued 27.5x3” Teravail Coronado’s. True it’s hard to find 27.5 x 2.8” tires with a meaty design. I have Kenda’s that size too but they are also discontinued and they only have 2.6” size now

So definitely yes on the shorter cranks. I known it's a Fad but my knees and hips feel som much better. I'm on 155mm 5devs. I would leen towards adding a full suspension. I currently have a Ripley AF and just purchased an sc 5010. The pripley climbs like a champ and is super capable down. Deals are pretty good right now.

@@hammertime7740 wow, 155, that’s a big change, I’m sure you notice that difference! That would require me to lift my seat much higher and I would probably want a longer dropper. Currently mine is only 120mm. I have been hearing and watching the reviews about the all new Ripley and Ripmo, IBIS has a great rep and known for being amazing climbing bikes. SC is another great brand and that 5010 is super light weight for a trail frame. VPP is a suspension that has been around but they have modified it and I’m sure it’s even better now. @hardmtnbiker yep, so you need to raise you cockpit and get a bigger dropper. It gets expensive. I demoed a the new Ripley this summer in santa cruz. Felt like a big bike. Opted for a 5010 instead. Not as light as you think but it rips and dances on the trail. Pivot trail 429 looks nice too. The dw link bikes are a joy for seated climbs. The cool thing about full squish bikes you can get away with much less tire and no cush core.

@ true, full suspension has many benefits. I’m not sure I would reduce to 2.3” XC thin casing tires but I would consider using tires w/o wide CushCore and opt for 2.4” Trail tires.

I think you are doing it right with the hardtail. I think if you wanted to go lighter I would go with a IBIS DV9 or Spot Rocker. I think Cannondale also has a lightweight XC bike. I think it’s more cost effective to start with a light frame than light components. I don’t have a budget for bling wheels. I would also definitely drop to a 165mm crank[at least for your geared bike] It saved my knees and I’m 5’9.

My knees are good and I’m 5’6” My value add is more about making it easier for long steep climbing with my 11-46 cassette. Even if I get a new bike with 12speed it’ll be build it with the 10-45 and a small 30t or 28t chainring

Have you done any trails off the Angeles Crest Highway or the end of Santa Anita Blvd? You have Strawberry Peak to Red Box and Chantry Flats featuring Gabrielino trail respectively.

@@mikej1348 Winter Creek is at the top of Santa Anita. They just reopened that road about a month ago but I’ve done that loop. It’s nice but has a few hike-a-bike creek crossings. Have done Strawberry in many years but it’s a great scenic trail. I rode up Mt Lowe the Red Box to Switzer all the way down the Gabrielino. That was an epic all day ride.

@ I have not done those trails in years. It requires a lot of time commitment. Especially doing Strawberry Peak from the Clear Creek Ranger station up Red Box and looping back. It’s best not to do those solo either. It’s the wilderness with no cell service and steep ledges. It’s a great adventure and it sounds like you have done epic rides yourself. Maybe you could include that in your videos too in the future.

I personally love the look of a 34 up front. I just stick to 32/20, a good middle ground for me. I’ll probably put a 22 for events or overnighters.

@@ico7909 I have been harder than a 32x20 since my old 26” wheel SS Mtn bike with stupid narrow rims and light XC tires. I hope to get to 32x20 on my Japhy but I need to work my way back to that.
