Totally agree with you on this. Go on any forum online and there's a lot of bragging about using big gears for singlespeed, i wonder if those people actually ride anything other than flat easy trails. The supposed default of 52" is way too high imo. I have gone as low as 36" with great success.(28t x 22t x 27.5" x2.8"). Able to manage long hilly rides in winter without problems other than i have to freewheel most descents and it can feel a bit silly spinning such a low gear to get to the trailhead. The real answer like most things is it depends and whatever works for you.

You're right, WI Torch Hubs do spin well, my wheel spins just like yours. But what I have come to realize is I like the silence of my ONYX Vesper hubs even more. The ONYX hubs have some drag though which I haven't been able to adjust out. But the silence is golden so I don't care too much about that little bit of drag. White Industries was suppose to release those chainrings in a silver finish from what the Rep at the Made Show booth said last year. They still have not done that. The bike they had on display had silver chainrings. I want one of those cranksets but I won't buy it if I have to go with black chainrings. @@ranvirsingh3295 I would look at a couple of things. 1. Were are you riding it. Is it really steep? 2. What tires are you using. Are they heavy lugged and slow rolling. 3. What gears ⚙️ Are they to appropriate for being able to climb up steep hills. The steeper the hills the easier gears are needed. Unless you live in an area where it’s flat, you should be not be concerned about peddling on the descents. Choose a gear that you can comfortably climb most of the trail, perhaps walk a few sections. But use gravity to “flow” the descent.

Thanks for the video(s). My surgeon did a tenodesis after repairing a type IV SLAP tear on 9/1/23. After a ton of rehab, it ruptured on 4/17/24 (7.5 months later). Surgeon said it was rare to tear and only happens in 10% of patients, but he would repair again but my odds of it happening again would increase to 20%. Well, I had it done again on 5/17/24 and followed all the rehab and protocol until today, 10 weeks in when I did something stupid without thinking and it ruptured again. I'm seriously thinking of leaving it as is thanks to hearing of your journey. Like in your first video, vanity and the thought of not being 100% was a mental motivation for the first and second surgeries. But at some point, enough is enough. So thank you for sharing your journey. For anyone who does the surgery, I strongly recommend using a sling if you are ever attempting a suitcase lift or schlepping luggage through an airport. Don't get some of your comments about Ti. There is very little weight difference between most Chinese titanium frames and a steel frame. Even your Seven, unless you go to the most expensive and multi-butted frame, is about 1600 grams - about the same weight as a high end steel build. That seven is about 5K for the frame and fork and the higher end Titanium can get you to the 1200 gram weight but that comes at a high cost - the seven is $7K. Rob English can do that with steel as well. And Seven does not make their own Titanium tubes, but butts and manipulates their tubes to their desire. Titanium is a great material. Great feel and really easy to take care of, but it is not nearly as light as Carbon or as Cheap as steel but offers a unique ride that is special.
@hardmtnbiker
@hardmtnbiker Ай бұрын
@@AMehta-ok5pf I agree Chinese Ti is not heavier than USA, could be lighter. The difference is the experience that you have with working with a company (frame builder) to bespoke a frame to your wants and needs. Obviously a factory, mass production frame is less expensive but is limited to a selection of sizes and geo. I would love to get a steel frame and that’s probably going to be my next project.
