There have always been openly queer musical icons throughout the ages especially in western circles. I mean Prince, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga, Kehlani, Queen Latifah, Dusty Springfield they weren’t invisible in the 2010s????? And some people of these people are super famous. Like yeah the internet didn’t exist but surely you have heard of a few of these people.

@@ren342 most of those people have had their sexuality erased or shamed by our culture for their entire careers. @lukesouthern36409 ай бұрын
@@ren342 wait was prince queer i never knew. but yes, there have always been queer artists but the thing is nowadays artists are able to talk about bein queer from the beggining of their careers. most of those artists alluded about their queerness vaguely in songs and artistic expression but couldnt talk about it or actually be queer, they would only do it when their careers were already solidified and when they reached a huge level of success. this leads to queer artists only being able to be recognized if they were super succesful, making most queer artists invisible they were 'too' queer. nowadays youre able to be queer and not try to assimilate as much.
