Indy performers are getting more exposure and being taken more seriously, "superstars" are experiencing more freedom to do what they want...

It's legal in the US because it's on camera. It's categorized as an exploitation film rather than a sporting event. Wrestlers also are not unionized, unlike actors. Lots of legal loopholes. There's also the fact that nobody cares if these mentally ill druggies injure or kill themselves in the ring.
