Hi Rebecca Joy Beaute, I'm happy that you found this tutorial helpful. It's one of my all-time favorite projects too. I find it impossible to find duvet covers that are made with quality fabrics. This way, I can get a designer look for what it would cost me to purchase one at the store. I hope you try this for yourself! If you'd like to make Euro shams to match, check out this video too: reneeromeo.com/2017/07/07/how-to-make-a-throw-pillow-with-fringe/ All the best, Renee

YES!! Sharon, you can absolutely make your own duvet to fit your bed. It's funny that furniture manufacturers make beds that don't fit standard size bedding. That was the problem with my bed too. Now, the blankets are covered from view and I have a one-of-a-kind duvet cover. You can do this!! Did you happen to see my Make A Bed video? If not, here's the link: reneeromeo.com/2019/10/18/how-to-make-your-bed/ You'll be super cozy too! Renee

Hi ElleSilk, You are very kind! This is such a great project to do for yourself - with so many pretty fabric options available in the stores (I got mine from Joann) - you will have a one-of-a-kind bed cover. I just love having unique things. That's why I DIY through most of my projects. I hope you'll try this too! Hi Renee, Used to sew as a teenager. Going to start back! Can you recommend the best, inexpensive sewing machine with which one can make a duvet cover please? Thank you!
@ReneeRomeo3 жыл бұрын
Hi Elizabeth, How exciting!! I have a Brother machine for regular sewing: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JQM1DE/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000JQM1DE&linkCode=as2&tag=reneeromeo0f-20&linkId=1149c39fbc09b051ea6a2ae5e47eba69 It's inexpensive, easy to use and includes a walking foot that's great for several layers of fabric. I also have a review of the Sailrite Heavy Duty machine on my website: reneeromeo.com/2018/03/01/industrial-sewing-machine-review-sailrite-heavy-duty/ This machine is strictly for heavy duty stitching but definitely not a necessity for normal stitching. In the mean time, please check out my sewing playlist here for some fun ideas for you: reneeromeo.com/?s=sewing Thanks for asking, Renee

Lucensia Kutwi If you use plain fabric (without a pattern, like I used on the backing) it will be even easier for you. It's going to be beautiful for you too! I love mine - it fits over the mattress perfectly. It's a huge benefit to DIYing it! I hope you enjoy making yours, Renee

Yeah it was really insightful thank you :) I'm trying to make a Queen size Doona cover, or duvet cover I think you call it in the States. Is there a reason why it's impossible to purchase fabric at that size? I believe I need 230 x 230, however I can only find at 110? Size Imperial (inches) Metric (cm) Queen 90 x 90 229 x 229 Do you know anywhere I can purchase fabric at the correct size, or will I also have to use the 3 roll technique? Ps: I will also be using a pattern Thanks Renee
@ReneeRomeo6 жыл бұрын
Daniel Guemene, I'm glad you found this video helpful. I've never heard this called a Doona cover - it's nice to learn something new! You're actually lucky to be able to find 110 inch wide fabric that is appropriate for a Doona cover. In the States, that width is usually only available in drapery fabrics. The rest of us are limited to the average size of a fabric loom. Most produce fabrics 60 inches or less. At least you now have a tutorial about matching patterns. That will help with your Doona project. Have fun sewing! Renee

I plan on making a duvet out of drop cloth. I'm going for a farmhouse look. Drop cloth is very natural in look and feel but is a fairly thick, almost canvas like material. What type of needle should I use? I'm very new to sewing and don't want to break any needles right out of the gate. Thanks so much!
@ReneeRomeo6 жыл бұрын
RoughRider Fpv, Definitely use a needle made for jeans. They are strong enough to go through eight layers of jean material without breaking. The trick to sewing on thick fabric is not to force the fabric through the machine but let the machine draw the fabric through for you. If the machine is having a hard time feeding it through (like at a seam), just take it slow, guide it through and you will be fine. I'd love to see it when it's done! Happy sewing, Renee

Hi Renee, Once again I am enthused about making a duvet cover for my french antique bed . The chalkboard allowed me to take copious notes and that is vital to measuring and ordering the amount of fabric that the cover requires. Brilliant way of covering the pillows by adjusting the shape of the duvet. Brilliant and so important for complete coverage of a well made bed. The chenille fabric is to die for. Where did you get it? You are generous to cover every detail. Very grateful for your advice
@ReneeRomeo5 жыл бұрын
Rina, I got the fabric at Joanne fabrics. I love it because it's multi-dimensional and gives the surface a quilted look without actually being quilted. I'm glad you like it too! It's surprising to me that duvet covers aren't factory made to accommodate pillows on the bed. Most people I know prefer not to put their bed pillows in shams. That's why it's so nice to make your own things - they're made perfectly for you! I'm so happy to share! Thank you for your gracious comments, Renee

Hello Renee!, I love your tutorial! My DNL has added to her Christmas wish list a linen duvet cover for the past two years. Sooo...yep! I going to make her one. The only question I have to you is, how did you cut for the curve? Did you use one of those curved ruler thingy? How long is the curve from top of the cover and how many inches from the side of the cover? Ok, more than one question but all related to one topic😊. Your instructions are nicely detailed. Thank you
@ReneeRomeo4 жыл бұрын
Hi Wendelyn, Yay! I'm so happy to help. The entire length of the curve is 24 -28 inches long. You will measure the height of your pillows and add that to the width - one height measurement per side (mine was an additional 4 inches per side). Remember that the pillows will squish down when covered by the duvet. You can just eyeball the curve to get you to jump between measurements. So, make sure that the steepest jump is hidden underneath the fold between where the pillows sit on the bed and the straight side meet. It will be hidden nicely underneath the pillow fold. Does this help? Renee

Where do you find your fabric. I find that every time I find something I like, by the time I'm ready to purchase, it's a discontinued pattern!
@ReneeRomeo4 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura, I go to Joanne Fabrics and Calico Corners for my fabrics. I tend to order them more often than purchase them off the in stock bolt. It's so much fun looking through their catalogs of fabric samples too. Calico is better at taking discontinued fabric samples out of their sample books. I hope this helps!
