My dad briefly met Alec Guinness once, he was walking to work at a hotel in London and down this side street up some stairs was Alec Guinness and in shock he points at him and says ‘it’s you!’ and Alec chuckles and points at himself and says ‘yes it’s me’

I don’t understand Guiness would try and make himself look like a bad guy even when he was actually very cordial in person. Like when he alleged he told a young boy to stop chasing banal fantasies when the boy said he’d seen Star Wars 20 times yet the boy as a man came foward and said he was nothing but pleasant and made jokes with the boy.

@@Urbanfisho I think I sort of know what he meant, Sir Alec Guinness is not the same as Obi-Wan Kenobi, they have different traits, personalities and quirks, Obi Wan is a character created and nurtured by many people, but still, Ewan was one of the people who have life to the character and took a lot from the original performance by Sir Alec Guinness

I idolized Mark Hamil as a kid. At the time, Mark was as heroic to me as Christopher Reeve. Mark is very talented. His impression of Alec Guinness was spot-on to my ears. Hearing him imitate Alec took me back to my childhood.

And he still is married to Marilou . It says a lot that he will have been married to the same woman for 40 years as of December of next year. Mark enjoyed his fame, and the ladies a little bit, but was smart enough to get over that quickly to settle down with a woman who was not in the business, and was in his life before Star Wars became a global phenomenon. Marilou met Mark when he was recovering from his car crash shortly after wrapping Star Wars, and is credited by his friends as being a large part of him bouncing back so quickly. I think the fact that she isn't in the business, and he knows she loves him, not Luke Skywalker, is a large part of the reason their marriage has been so successful.

I love how Mark is remembering Alec super fondly as the kind English gentleman he very likely was, and I also remember Carrie Fisher saying on NPR that Alec Guinness on one occasion gave Mark 100 pounds to "go away" for a bit. What's even funnier is that, knowing Carrie, she would never say anything that Mark didn't want out there or that was defamatory (false), so it probably happened once and Mark let Carrie tell people about it.
