Full of imagination. Amazing how he is referring to a broken relationship with a 404. Every word adds something to tge big picture he was drawing to come to "a simple mistake can remind me of y I should love u". He is an artist not a computer geek.

@NoQuo12 жыл бұрын
what you are saying is that this WHOLE TED TALK is about the DESIGN and not the message @0:53. Yes people have been doing it since the 90s, but it means that a failure like this is like one in real life. You don't want it, it doesn't feel good, but you can make it better, because mistakes can make you a better person.

No, it's not. Error pages are as important to site design (and thus your marketing effort) as your index page is. No aspect of the user experience should ever be ignored or minimized-unless you also want to minimize your user base.

Except that it IS a big deal, and not enough people know that. If you've ever designed or developed a site that didn't have error pages that are both useful an in-character for the site, then you're doing it wrong. It's not about being clever, it's about reducing user frustration AND effective marketing. Fail there, and you may as well be doing million-record bubble sorts on every page serve-it'll have the same effect on your users.

TED talks all have fairly short time allotments, even when the talks have a lot to cover, in order to compress the information into an interesting presentation; I'm glad you enjoyed this talk but in contrast I don't think he said much anything of particular interest. Personal anecdotes are there for flavor, not to make the meat of the talk.

We are not interested in the topic of 404 error pages, but we think the guy explains it in an interesting way. Our favourite part of the video was the video of the cyclist crashing, but we also liked the Coca-Cola error page, which we thought well very well-designed.

There's no reason to jump to that conclusion; we disagree on it, and we both have our reasons for why we think what we do; as sensible individuals we can understand both sides of an argument and choose to change our minds or not. What works for some people doesn't work for others.

I'm confused as to why so many disliked this (other than having to see 404 pages; they do annoy, I'll grant you). 404 pages need polish, just like the rest of one's site. Take a look at the error pages of a AAA website vs. what one used to expect (the browser default error page), and it's more than obvious that what this guy is saying needs to be taken seriously.

I think that you have to take advantage of the problems you face in the internet in order to be able to promote your brand. But, you have to be very creative to design a very nice logo to catch the attention of people that are always online because it's very important to leave in their mind your brand to be remembered every day.
