In the last 4 years my rent went from 600pw to 1020pw. I've noticed in my building rent are going down. 6mths ago they were trying to get 1200pw. Now they're asking 950-900pw. This is for 2b 2b.

I live in Brisbane and have been in the same rental for 12 years. I was told on the weekend my rent is going to increase massively to $850 per week. How many people can you fit in a small 3 bedroom place... i suppose we'll see very soon What a time to be alive

I counted 5 houses for rent just driving to and from the shops in my suburb in Brisbane. They have been on the market for over two weeks. Haven’t seen that since pre Covid. They are either asking too much that people are willing to pay or the demand has slowed. Good I say. Real estate agents appear to tell landlords they can get more a week than people are willing to pay. The house across the road was advertised for $720, after a month they got $670. Still not worth that much. It’s a share house with three adults

Thankfully the vacancy rates registering higher off the canvas mean a seller can make the choice to sell and rent somewhere first before rebuying. Lots of homes coming...

Older houses in Ipswich Qld have levelled out and falling in rental price. Brand new builds are asking $600+ and there is a lot of those tricky tacky houses available on the property wesites.

Mate I'm already subbed. I'll share 👍. Belmont NSW rent 6 years ago was $400 to $500 per wk, now it's $600 to $800 per week. I'd love a property crash my friends. Two parents + two kids. I don't care about your investments.
@fatwombat261115 күн бұрын
I own a house and wouldn't mind a crash. If you only have one and live in it it's all relative anyway.
@fatherburning35815 күн бұрын
@fatwombat2611 mate I have no problems with home owners. It's investors I don't like. They don't like me either. It's all relative. I have less ability to live in a society where families of lower economic means can't even live close to our kids school and the parents workplace. I'm in lake Mac. 150km away from Sydney. I thought that was a good distance from the madness 15 yr ago. Post pandemic. No. Now Sydney is here. 🤦

I get the sentiment, but the problem that Australia has now is that our economy has narrowed and housing is propping up the books. It was all well and good when the Howard government introduced stimulus plans for the industry. It absorbed workers from the failing manufacturing sector and it kept the bank's profit margins going up. The problem is that nobody turned off the tap and it has since become a core industry in Australia. If it crashes, everything crashes.
@fatwombat261115 күн бұрын
@@davidbrayshaw3529 it's either a crash or a dying middle class and currency devaluation. Neither is a great option.
@fatherburning35815 күн бұрын
@davidbrayshaw3529 yes. I do understand. I've been living an austere lifestyle so long now, no debt at all, no holidays etc etc. I'm absolutely sure we will get though such a situation. See, I really don't care what happens to investors or really anyone else because we've been working and living just above poverty for so long now. Its not I'm against success, it's that success is pushing down. I get it, I really do, I'm just tired of the greed now. I have kids. I wish you well and do appreciate all views. I do have my own to care for without needing to own everything I can.

As a landlord, our costs have risen, we pass it on to the tenants, it’s just the way it is. The labour policies have caused this - a labour vote will result in your rents rising much more in the future. Once interest rates come down, we will finally have the best of both worlds, an inflated rental income and lower holding costs. But it’s a slow grind for it to come together. Try and buy assets, rather than relying on renting. The rent will double within 15 years.

That’s a great chart by REA Group DFA but not really telling the story, the chart we really need to see is how many applicants per available dwelling and how many viewing, if only a 100 rental properties available in one location and 200 applicants viewing each property availability is zero, correct , Cheers
