Keegan, you did an amazing job describing everything in the apartment process!! Something I want to add on for pets, is that if your Animal is a certified ESA, apartments cannot charge you for the fees!!!! The animal will have to have proper documentation though, it can’t just be a verbal conversation.

This is so interesting as I never knew how different it was to rent an apartment in the states. I’ve never heard of paying an application fee, tax on top of the rental price, and so many of the other fees like the furniture fee just seems insane to me and I’ve lived in a number of furnished apartments. Seriously crazy but I think it’s great that you made something like this because while it’s just fascinating to me and my curiosity I know it’ll really help a lot of people!

Another tip I have if you are unable to do a tour of an apartment in person. See if you can do a virtual tour. My husband and I moved from Louisiana to Florida in late May. We went from a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom. I based upon what we took when we moved based upon what I saw in the virtual tour. Apartment complexes are okay if there is a change of vehicle if a new one needs to be changed (my husband had an engine give out on his old car about 2 weeks before our). Check with the auto insurance company to see if the company does renters insurance.

We moved from PA to CO last summer and I looked at apartments incase we didn’t find a house and the one place allowed dogs but you had to give a stool sample. They did this because if people didn’t pick up after their dogs they could trace it to you and you got a fine.

Hi when I got my first apartment.. the process that slowed me down was they said 12 other people were popping up on my credit check.. problem was - I didn’t have any credit at the time .. turned out the lady doing the paper work was putting my number in wrong and causing a huge headache… but my best friend & I got approved in the end .. this was back in 2004.. so times w that have changed I’m sure .. enjoy your videos… From Atlanta Georgia:))

I usually stay away from apartments that charge excessive fees for everything. I was actually told that is a huge red flag 😹. Typically a decent apartment has utilities included and you have to pay separate for internet and cable. Unless the rent is reasonable paying a ton extra for utilities isn’t worth the overall cost at all.

As a European citizen this is very interesting. I have to say I’m very baffled by all the extra fees you have to pay even though you apply online. The fact that rent these days are expensive enough, it’s odd you have to pay these extra fees. I’m happy for you that you are able to rent because where I live it is hopeless, there is just not enough houses and apartments to rent, and if there were, some places will not rent it out to you because you don’t fit the age requires or you earn too much money. I’m 29 and still live at home because there is just no space for single people like me to rent a space. Buying a house is also out of the question. 💕

Way to side-step the pet deposit/fee/rent is to register them as an emotional support animal. Then they cannot charge any of that. I actually do have diagnosed generalized anxiety issues so my kitty is my emotional support kitty and I don’t pay anything to have her. 🐈‍⬛

@@stephanielacoco they do tho, especially living in college towns. Places are really strict about not allowing pets or charging per deposits/rents. People will just say that have emotional issues even with out any diagnosis, get a letter online or get a doctor to write one. When I was getting mine, which I do have GAD, MDD, and PTSD I had a really hard time getting paperwork because so many people try to side-step with out needing it.

so werid to hear how the states does this.. in Canada (ontario) there is no such thing as a secuirty deposit or pre-approval (that i know of). We just need to submit our credit scores, 2 pay stubs, sign the lease, pay first and last! we dont pay for applications the landlord pays that, pets are free!
