They should have taught us all this in school 😭. The CALM (Career and Life Management) highschool class in Alberta never covered this stuff.

I just finished CALM in Alberta and there was a whole project dedicated to moving out. They must have changed the curriculum lol

@@DesmondMonroe-oi4by it depends on the teachers. We did fake job interviews and research on a future job. But there was never anything on moving out or bills or taxes.

There used to be a class called "Home Economics", it was ditched in the AB school system late 80's, too bad, it literally prepared kids for moving out and gave loads of practical life hacks and tips.

@@dlo111Omg I never realised that Canada doesn’t have Home Economics anymore that explains so much, no wonder this channel is so important Tho at least in Ireland it’s less an economy class and more a cooking class with some occasional sewing lessons. Still useful, though

You probably could swing that rent with a part-time job, just as long as you never took a sick day and were also working a full-time job.

Like 4 years ago that same place was $1100 per month. COVID happened now all property owners claim it's inflation. I've lived in this mf since 78'...on Earth and never in my life did an apartment raise rent more than $50 a month for a new lease...All the sudden these mfers can raise rents $500 per month in two years 😂😂😂 So will rent be $2800 a month in 5 years at this place when I'm still making almost the same wages I made 4 years ago? This truly is criminal

This hurts my heart for my kids. I had a hard time in Edmonton at at $300/mo when I graduated HS. My kids could never afford what rent is now, and there is NO cap for landlords to raise the rent in AB. 😢

In Denmark and Hungary the deposit ir more likely to be 2-3 months of rent + you also might have to pay 2-3 months of rent in advance. In Denmark you also loose most of your deposit - this is the main reason why I can’t afford to move😅

Here’s a tip If you’re one person, living alone, wash your clothes in a plastic tub in the bathtub It actually goes by a lot faster and easier than you think and saves you a ton of money You only need to go to the laundromat for your bedsheets

This is great advice. Just wanted to add on that I often put a tablespoon of whole or distilled vinegar in as well to help soften and freshen laundry.

@@czynicism 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 For rancid work socks: I put them on my hands like mitts, a sploch of dish soap and lather like you’re washing your hands.

Lmao the rent is never just the rent it starts at 1650 then the apartment adds another 100-200 in fees like trash valet, parking, parcel locker, amenities, etc 🙄 then you get to add all the fun stuff on top of it like utilities, renter’s insurance, wifi, etc

@@dlo111 parking spot does cost $90 however and the contract was 14 months. There was also a deal where you don’t have to pay deposit. The place was newly renovated with quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances. I can see a bit of the river through the windows too.

@rrmj105

The point is that sure, you may earn more than 1650 a month but that doesn't mean you can afford 1650 a month in rent. The first character's misunderstanding that she could was the teaching moment.

The best financial advice i've ever gotten is to give up on canada and move to America. The bar is so much fcking lower. I have my own house & car. If i was still trying to make it in Canada i'd be in my parents spare bedroom :(
