Awesome unit/easy setup. I had a completely different experience with the assembly of this unit. I suspect this review was done with a very early unit and REP Fitness has taken feedback and made adjustments. Super impressed with the ease of installation and set up as well as the quality of this trainer. Came in a standard uline wood packing crate - just bend the tabs back to open. Plan to spend some time to unpack, unwrap, inventory, and organize the parts. Everything will go faster if you do. Once the parts were organized, it took 2 of us about 3 hours to fully assemble. Very straightforward - no issues. I had read reviews discussing the difficulty of installing the cables and hole alignment issues. My unit came with the cables already installed. I had no issues with aligning bolts into holes. Everything went surprisingly smoothly. Also, I checked the welds based on this review - they all look reasonably clean - again they probably got an early production unit. Exceeded expectations. I'm just starting to do workouts with this FT. It's been a game-changer in terms of creating much better workout routines - more variety, more eccentric move options, more isolation opportunities, great for rehabbing (I have a shoulder issue). Silky smooth operation. I'm 65. Long term fitness fan. 6', 175lbs. The compact footprint and height of this unit are perfect. The footprint was a big driver for me because I only had a limited floorspace section of my garage to put this in. By the way this is 58" WIDE - NOT 68" - the Rep Fitness website is correct (vs. this review). I like doing pullups as part of my workouts. My only complaint is I wish the pullup handholds offered a better shoulder width neutral grip position (helps avoid shoulder and elbow issues). Overall very happy with this product. Honestly, for basically the price of a Peloton, this is a great addition for anyone doing strength training.
@buckleydowdle6821 Жыл бұрын
@RepFitness- here is a free one: Take this and add a single arm to each side that rotates 180 degrees horizontally (and locks in) so we can adjust the WIDTH of exercises along with the height. Like a vendetta strength jammer arm turned 90 degrees, and the handle attachment point at the end. It would allow you to shrink the footprint in, but still allow enough width for chest flys.

Rep should just pair the Athena w/ their in-rack storage shelves & use angled brackets & wider front crossmember w/angled attachment point to widen out the front posts, similar to Rogue’s FT-1 functional trainer design.
@14tryenss Жыл бұрын
Okay hear me out, crazy idea that would be crazy expensive. Would solve the inrack cable problem with the cable arms being so close. What if you make jammers arms that the cables could feed thru and then could lock into position in the transverse and frontal planes when you want to use the cables. that way they would act as jammer arms when you aren’t using the pulleys but then could be positioned like free-motion duel cable stack when using the cables
@timl6450 Жыл бұрын
Seems like you could get two Bells of Steel cable columns with stacks, connect them with a cross member (or just bolt both to the wall) and you’ll get a functional trainer that is wider, with more versatility (because it works with BOS rack attachments), a heavier stack (because you can switch from 2:1 to 1:1), for a roughly similar price. That’s probably the way I would go at this price point if you needed a functional trainer separate from a rack.

@jacobepetersen11 ай бұрын
I'd recommend the medium supinate first, then the close supinate (happy to keep going in order of use). The knock offs all feel a bit "cheap" in comparison and I really like supporting an American made company. By cheap, I mean the grip / texture doesn't feel as high quality and I notice differences in the grip size and angle. The only ones that are "close" are the Prime...which are amazing and offer variability...but are expensive. I have all the Mag and all the Prime attachments for reference (weird flex).

Honestly, why doesn't REP make some angled crossmembers and a wider multigrip pullup bar with their Athena to give it that wider v-shaped traditional functional trainer footprint? Then you'd retain all the functionality of the 3x3 uprights with 5/8 or 1 inch holes (including height options) and they'd need minimal new engineering or parts.

Coop - why would you get this vs. getting the Athena or Ares. Just considering the value proposition here. The FT-5000 will always but JUST a functional trainer but the ability to build out and expand the Ares/Athena just seems like a better buy as an investment vs. getting a single purpose tool in the functional trainer. Just sitting on the fence right now debating what to get here from Rep.
@adamfox1547 Жыл бұрын
My exact question, have you got any insight on this ?
@jimbowmanjr4811 ай бұрын
@@adamfox1547 I ultimately figured it out just looking at the measurements and movements between the two. The range of motion is a bit more narrow or limited with the Athena/Ares. I ended up just getting the FT and plan to put the full rack in another room. The rack configurator options are basically endless but the price scales with your options and it gets out of control in a hurry if you aren't paying attention

I want to see you develop a new storage solution for it. Something like this.... That "Instructional Diagrams" need to go. Not for this audience. Replace that with wall control or pegboard so the user can define a storage arangement for handles, attachements that works for them. That lower set of "pegs" should be replaced by a flat shelf for dumbbells/kettlebells etc, and then a second one of those just off the floor. Add one of there standup benches to this and you have a whole gym that stores in a very small space, like the corner of a basement.

Same question. 58" works. 68" doesn't. Big difference.
@johnpeters2298 Жыл бұрын
I got a reply from REP. They confirmed the new front width is 58”. Direct quote “We can confirm that the front width of the FT-5000 2.0 is in fact 58" and not 68".” Btw the compact footprint for what you get and the relative quality of this unit is tough to beat. I’m 6’ and the extra height of this vs the FT3000 is much appreciated for pull-ups. I wish the assembly didn’t suck and it had a lower weight range for rehab. But all things considered this looks like a great option. I can fabricate my own pegboard for handles. I also don’t care that it comes with crappy handles. I’m going to buy the ones that work best for me any way.

Time for functional trainers to get more innovative. I have seen a few innovative ones but this company called Atlas - models AL-3075 and AL-3101. As well, Inspire made a more affordable version of the FT2 called the SF3 with a built in Smith machine. These other ones are fine but don't really provide much more functionality as compared to cheaper models - maybe this Rep fitness one is a little wider than a cheaper model with a few more options for the chin up grips - doesn't seem to do anything else different from a basic unit.
