Great review! I was debating between this and 2 bells of steel 2.0 towers. Opted for the bells of steel as I'm able to set them up on opposing sides instead of beside each other(no space constraints) and all in price including almost every attachment and double of some, and including shipping was 3700 Canadian. Will buy lever arms down the road some time

Good review, editing is really on point, sad that your channel is so underrated. I think it's pretty decently priced compared to what's on the market, a bit silly that it's not taller and that it has stickers instead of metal plates. I'm not going to get it cause I'm not rich lol. I'm content with my basic pulley set up, plus I can go up in logical weight increments.
@RyanTreadaway3 жыл бұрын
I do agree that the stickers are silly but I think they made it on the shorter side on purpose since most people will be buying this for home use. Gotta make sure it fits in people's houses. And thanks for the compliments!

Great, detailed video review. A functional trainer is going to be my next addition to my home gym and with the price tags, I'm looking to get as much info as possible. This and the 3000 (because of space constraints) are at the top of my list. Also contemplating the Prime Single Stack. I think I've crossed off the more "budget" options for the reasons you stated. Thanks for the great info.
@RyanTreadaway3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't go for a single stack personally. Dual stack is the only way to be able to do true isolateral exercises and you'll have more weight available with a dual stack.
@ben_r_3 жыл бұрын
So what about a functional trainer in place of a traditional power rack setup? Seems like a functional trainer offers quite a bit of potential in a much more space saving package than a whole power rack / free weights / barbell / bench setup. How limited might one feel with just a functional trainer, and maybe a flat bench with some dumbbells and other misc accessories?
@RyanTreadaway3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your goals. If you're just aiming for some fat loss and muscle growth, DBs and a functional trainer would be excellent. for strength, it's pretty hard to beat a rack and BB setup. Plus, you could do a squat stand instead of a power rack if you're really limited on space.

Mostly because of cost, I might put a lat pull down/low row ahead of a full blown functional trainer for a home gym.

Cable flies are perfectly fine. It's plenty wide enough. The only issue I ever have is if I'm doing kneeling single arm lat pulls, it's a bit short. Or straight arm pulldowns. Other than that, the size isn't much of an issue.

Very good review, I've got the Xmark FT and I love it and use it everyday. I wish it had the extra 20 lbs this one has though. Along with my adjustable dumbbells, bench with leg ext/leg curl/preacher curl attachment and Glute Drive machine it's all I need. I did make a platform device with pulleys that allows me to belt squat both stacks and I also added a removable Y-dip attachment. That weight plate labeling is an unnecessary complication IMO, agree they should just label it with basic numbers but it does look like a decent machine at a great price. Anyone shopping for a FT should seriously consider the width between the pulleys, if they're too close together it will make chest flyes less effective
@RyanTreadaway3 жыл бұрын
I love the setup you've got going. How'd you rig your belt squat up for 2 pulleys?
@Bing7242 жыл бұрын
RipTide, how much is the height from floor to the carabiner (cable end) at highest position in Xmark FT? This one in video shows 61”. I’m comparing both trainers and leaning towards Xmark.

What advantages of the ft5000 over the nice foldable torque f9?
@RyanTreadaway2 жыл бұрын
The F9 folds away, which is great if you have space constraints but from what I can tell (without having used it personally), it looks like this design affects stability. That machine looks like it wobbles a bit. The overall build quality looks higher on the rep machine too. That's all I can say without having used the F9.

Have you tried to use a pin horn to stick in rack for addition weight, since its a 2-1 ratio ? I can see you could max out on certain exercises.
@RyanTreadaway2 жыл бұрын
I haven't yet. I haven't needed to. I don't max the machine out on anything quite yet except for shrugs, which I normally do with barbell anyway. I'm close to maxing it out on a couple. I may look into one at that point.

What about the Inspire fitness FTX that Costco sells? Here in Canada it’s $1499. Worth it or bad quality?
@RyanTreadaway2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity of using that one so I can't say for sure. The one thing I can say though is the rep FT 5000 is much bigger, which is better for some exercises like flyes. (Unless you're in a small space. Then the smaller Inspire functional trainer may be better)
@leesin43213 жыл бұрын
Try Costco’s Inspire FTX. On sale after tax is about $1100 shipped. Very nice quality.
@RyanTreadaway3 жыл бұрын
That's great for the price but the weight stacks have a lot less weight. I think there's a lot of people who will max out in weight on that machine. Since these machines aren't expandable, you really need to make sure you get one that you'll be able to use forever.

How wide / far apart are the guide rods? Looking for something that gives enough stretch as a crossover if possible
@RyanTreadaway2 жыл бұрын
The full width of the rack is 72 inches wide and the hinges of the pulleys are almost even with the widest point. I'd say they're probably ~68 inches wide. I'd have to measure to be sure. I have a 6 ft 3.5 inch wingspan and it's wide enough for me to do cable flyes.

You can. I would say you need to use both cable stacks to overload big exercises like lat pulls or rows. You can do isolateral or you could get one of those straight bars that will connect to both cables of a functional trainer.

The inspire is much less but not near as smooth to me. I'd love to get the freemotion but very pricy. The FT2 has the smith machine and also the leg extension/leg curl, let pull, and low row, which are great additions. That said, you have to do some cable swapping and such to use some of those pieces. It's also double the price. I've not personally used the FT2 but I've heard it's a solid piece of equipment. I guess the main question would be is having those extra options worth paying double the price for you?
