Woooooo! Awesome! I really glad that you found some time to try it! The results is beautiful. Personally, I prefer more dark, deep colours, but warm tones works really well with that red armour. And all done is so clean, Templar pouches in comparison looks simply bad, and other areas flat. Now the details really "pop" and complementing the sculpt and shading in other parts of the figure. About that sword - maybe the problem is in plastic itself. I always struggle with multiple layers of paint on smooth plastic with sleek finish, it always have some problems with adhesion. But the result is still great, really. Im honoured by your mention. I understand that you probably don't have much time, so thank you for trying it. Personally, I don't go as far when I repaint action figures - some washes there, some drybrush here, but I see why you choose to basically redone some pieces. And it's very interesting to see how other people work in the same hobby, what colours they choose and what techiques they use. So cool to see you at work, it inspiring me finish my Templars. I hope you like the results of your work as much as I do, totally worth the effort.

Most of the new space marines don't have any shading. What paint should I buy to add shade?

My dood, nice work. I do custome action figures. And one bit of info that will help you is these toys hsve a seal on them. You need to either scrub them with a very soft tooth brush w/warm soapy water. OR put them in a ultra sonic jewelry cleaner with warm soapy water. Your paint will adhere and pop better. Your basically painting over a wax resin release on the figure. If you want more tips feel free to DM me.

When I saw the surface of the pistol holster around 6:17 I was a bit sceptical, but the final results of all of your changes just look great. I was actually surprised you were able to apply the paint that easily for the most part. I was expecting the shield and the figure to behave more like the sword. I honestly wish I had those skills. My latest figure arrived yesterday and it's the first one where the holster, the pouches and the undersuit no longer have any highlighting at all. If I could get your results, I would instantly go and fix that. How much time did it take you to finish this figure?

How long did it take me to do this? I am a slow ass painter, but I would consider myself an above average painter because my slowness and attention to detail. In total, roughly 4-5 hours. Other people would take a lot less time than that. A lot of how the painting turned out I realize depends on the paint itself. Citadel paints for the most part, have very, very good coverage with one thin coat but even more excellent coverage with 2 thin coats according to Duncan Rhodes. However, not all of their paints are the same so you saw the Stormhost Silver have crappy coverage. I could have gotten a bad pot too. But we make the best out of the situation and move on if we can’t fix it because I have 500 other grey miniatures to paint lol

@@SpruesNStuds Nothing wrong with taking your time to get the result you want or at least a result your are satisfied with at the first try, I would say - especially with a backlog of over 500 minis. Imagine always having to think "Yeah, well I kind of have to revise that Joy Toy figure at some point!" on top of it. 😀

This is actually a good idea for the contents since we all know that many of us have some painting issues with our models, btw may you give me any tips on what citadel colors should i use to fix my goldplate chest on my loyalist marines and the gold leaf on my vulnerable dreadnought handcannon?, i just want to put a little on some chipped parts as alike as possible...iam not a tabletop players so i have no clue about citadel colors at all, thank you battle brother!

The gold color of the lascannon on the venerable dreadnought is very similar to the gold color on the Blood Angels Blade Guard Vet. Which means that Hashnut Copper is going to be the closest Citadel paint that would match up with the colors on the cannon. The color is not a 1:1 match so I would suggest you paint the whole leaf area because if you just paint the area in which there is a paint chip, the color is going to look a bit off.

Do you happen to know which colour to use for edge highlighting the Ultramarine blue? I have some of the earlier releases that came with highlights and the later one without it, personally prefer em so I might try painting the later ones with it. And how do you go about giving them the black wash on the blue like the later releases? The earlier releases don't seem to have em. And does the paint come off? Some people say that it needs to be primed, but I've never painted the miniatures before so I don't think I'm confident in painting the whole figure and would like to just add little details.

Off the top of my head, no I do not know exactly what color JT used to edge highlight their action figures. Perhaps you can try to use Ulthuan Grey if you use Citadel paints to try to mimic the earlier releases. For this type of thing, it is trial and error to get it to match properly. Off the top of my head, it likely is not possible to do that kind of shading with a paint brush. You will likely need an airbrush to pull that shading off. I have no experience in air brushing so you'll likely need to find another source for help as I do not like telling people incorrect stuff with things I have no experience with. The paint will come off if you rub it off and that is a trait about acrylic paints. If you want to make your paint last then you will need a matte or gloss clear coat. I use Citadel's Munitorm Varnish which is a matte clear coat that protects the paint. So as you saw in my video, I just went and painted over the different parts so priming really is not needed. Just make sure to thin your paints and apply at least 2 very thin coats and that's all you need. Good luck!

@@reepee9168 When you are painting a miniature, you don't typically put shadows on the edges of miniatures mainly because edges are where a model/ object catch light. So I personally think that this edge highlighting with shadow is a bit strange. But to directly answer your question, yes, I think that Abaddon Black would work fine.

i was gonna suggest for you to paint a joytoy fig but i searched your vids first and i found this one. your version of the shield looks better but i'm not a fan of the sword. the leather stuff touch up is nice though. i would love to see you fully paint an intercessor with your style and do a before and after comparison of the same model for reference.

Oh I am always interested in different paints. I’ve read reviews that army painter is awesome and offers best value for money. Not to mention they are not in stupid ass paint pots like GW. I highly dislike those pots 🙄

Perhaps it would be better if you can “unlearn” the existence of these action figures because your bank account will thank you in the end 😂. Yes, the quality of the paint job from the factory is quite lacking in my opinion since I am a painter myself. However, that being said I do understand that the people who work at the factory do not have the time to devote to painting as they are cranking these out as fast as they can.

for joytoy figs, the quality is pretty good imo, especially their mechs. their paint is a bit of a toss up since consistency is not their strong suite but for the average consumer who doesn't paint, it is great. try getting a blood angels sergeant intercessor. it's pretty good.

I will for sure be following suit :) are you using a primer afterwards I'm thinking of going the Mr super clear route...I'm a hardcore gundam builder/painter lol, so i'll be applying what I know from there. does some of the paint scratch off when you put the sword in the scabbard, or the handle of the sword in the hand?

So Citadel paints (Games Workshop's line of paints) have something called Munitorum Varnish which is a flat clear coat that you finish off your model/ action figure with. This protects the paint and keeps it intact when you handle the miniature on the tabletop. So the direct answer to your question is, yes, the paint does scratch off if you do not use the varnish. Also, thank you for the props and the idea to do this video. It makes great KZbin content lol

Haha...too lazy and the mould lines really didn't bother me too much. Plus I think if I decided to clean up the mould lines, the plastic underneath would be a white color so I would need to repaint that whole area if not the entire marine. However, that is not to say that I will not make a video in the future completely repainting and cleaning up an action figure....
