NOTE: This fix didn't work for my washer, but it apparently worked for others. I would have replaced the User Interface Control Panel Board, but I didn't want to spend $300 more on this washer. It has not been very reliable. I thought the MAYTAG name would prevent regular issues, but I was wrong.
I bought a new GE. I also considered an LG and a Samsung. The are all highly reviewed.
My previous washer was a Whirlpool which is apparently made by the same company that makes MAYTAG. I experienced similar problems with that washer. I will not buy from that product family again.
