Repair Infiniti Power Seat in an hour for $14

If your power seat will not move correctly but you can hear the motor running when you press the switch, there is a good chance that a $14 plastic seat motor gear is stripped. You can replace this yourself. See links below to specific sections of the video and replacement part.

In this third video in my series I will remove the passenger seat from my 2004 Infiniti FX 35 and replace a missing plastic seat gear I was able to buy online for $14. The repair only requires very basic tools. The dealership does not sell this part and will quote you an entire seat to do the same repair.

Thanks for posting this. I just fixed my 2005 FX35 driver side seat with that gear I ordered from Amazon, in 30 minutes. I didn't even take the seat out or unplug anything. Just pulled the plastic seat front off to the side and went from there.I went straight to the right side gear, and found that it was stripped.

I should have made the repair without taking the seat out of the car. This would have been a smarter and faster approach, but then I would not have found the treasures under my seat.

I would guess if you don't hear or feel anything when you touch the switches then you might have a problem with the wiring or the motors.

intriguing. bought an 04 fx 35 in march. 19k. up to 26 now. drivers seat just stopped moving forward or back. everything else works fine. this video has been very informative. they're great cars but seem to be finicky. any issues with your passenger door and rear hatch not unlocking but then you unlock it manually on the passenger door and they both unlock again? its a weird thing I could explain more lol. keep up the great videos. curious to see the one about the drivers seat you mention at the end of this video cheers

The fix for the drivers seat is the same for the passenger seat. I think it’s even possible to this repair without removing the seat as long as you can raise it to maximum height. All my locks work except the fuel door. Thanks for watching.

Hey man, amazing informative channel! I recently got a '05 FX35 and Im doing small projects like you. I know you're not a mechanic but do you have any idea what might be the issue with my driver memory seat. I set the memory and when I exit the vehicle, the steering wheel retracts and the seat goes back. However, when I enter the vehicle and insert the key, only the steering wheel goes back to memory position but not the seat (unless i manually use the switch to pull it forward). Any ideas?

There is a computer setting to disable the automatic seat and steering movement. Unless you need the seat back and the whee up to get in and out, I would disable it so you don’t prematurely kill the gears / motors. Because my height adjusts on the seats have not been repaired yet, I don’t use memory seat at all.

how did you find the item for the project? For the same car, my steering wheel doesnt go forward and backwards. Im assuming the gear is broken.How do you find the part to fix it?

I've not had any trouble with my steering control, but I found the seat part on amazon. Before I ordered it I also found a guy online selling them. It's not a part that Infiniti sells directly.

Its almost certain that a plastic gear is broken. I have not tried to look at recline, only the forward and back.

You can look at the seat motor when the seat is all the way up. If it looks similar to mine than it might be the same problem.

I have a rusted bolt plate bolt thats also stuck/spinning. From infinitifx.org "Just pull... The interior tabs will pop off and you just need to make sure you find them again. Hurricane ida just blew the car seat motor i think. Inside my car got flooded. I opened my door and found my seat all the way back. And the car seat motor/ switch don't work and my battery was dead!!

You might have an actual fault in the system. It could be time to take it to the dealer for service.

If it moves in only one direction you could have a problem with your wiring or motor. You might have someone who's electrically inclined try to look at the voltage at the forward and back motor in both switch positions.

I think you can repair the front and back gear without removing the seat from the car, but then you will miss all the treasure buried under your seat. The other two motors are further back so I'm pretty sure the seat needs to come out for those....I still need to do this project on the drivers side.

If you hear the motor running but the seat is not moving I would check the gear. If you push the button but you don't hear anything then you likely have a problem with the motor or the other electrics.

I think it's possible to do this without removing the seat if only the forward and back have failed.
