Bought a 2003 Fx45 last fall with 196,000 miles and it is rock solid. Absolutely love it. I live in southern Utah and it makes for an amazing canyon cutter and handles mountain passes just as well. Amazing in the snow. I love being able to afford a sport luxury suv (even if it’s 18 yrs old) after owning way too many ‘starter cars’. All of the basic maintenance and even the replacement of struts, etc. is super easy and relatively affordable for parts. The main issues with these is dash bubbling and door actuators.

@@lennybetances514 well as you might know the valve cover gasket are notorious for leaking 😂😂so usually it might happen if it hasn’t already, wheel barring at times and maybe struts other then that it’s Dame near bulletproof . As long as you do usually maintenance like oil change you should last a very long time also it’s not hard to work on them as well since it’s a lot of room. @@abdullahbouhamdan9666 well my first was a BMW at 95k miles going to a 350z was a huge step in reliability. Personally I think the 350z is very reliable car. The transmission is smooth and from what I’ve read stays good until 250k miles maybe even more if you don’t do stupid things all the time. The engine is the bullet proof VQDE engine. The models after 2006 uses the VQHE engine which put out a tad more power but both are still great. And they sound great too. The 350z is also super cheap to fix and I got my car at 89k miles and the only things I’ve done was change the oil filter and the oil as well as the air filter. Nothing major at all. Overall the car is quick, reliable and probably in my opinion one of the best affordable/reliable sports cars you can get. The oil and engine temperature stays consistent all the time, your never gonna find yourself getting lights or getting in limp mode unless you or the person before really have hammered the car with high mileage. Overall it’s reliable, fast, fun, good looking and affordable. I totally recommend getting one. Preferably 2006 and above.

That big Nissan lump was also used in the Renault Espace people carrier in Europe. Great engine, the only problem was that a couple of the spark plugs were really difficult to get at. No problem sir! they are long life plugs. But many people who thought they had picked up a second hand bargain soon found that they needed them doing (at vast expense). Presumably they are easier to get at in a large SUV engine bay.

I fully agree with Scotty. I have 05 awd with 170,000km. 18 years and running with zero engine and transmission issues. 1 cam sensor had to be replaced. 2 window regulators. This car is a tank. Winter driving with LSD is so much fun. All the tech still works. Auto cruise with radar, lane departure, navigation, and rear DVD. The steering wheel, seats, and mirrors all self-adjust as they are assigned per the key fob. And the rear camera resolution is better than my other car, the 2021 RAV4. Wtf.

My 22 year old brother bought a g37 with 200,000 miles still running strong!.. 3years later bought 2000's infinity truck and that's running strong as well...guess he made a good choice at an early age😁👍🏿

I had 2004 G35 x sedan awd had the car for 9 years. I had no issues, just oil change and go! I didn’t replaced any engine mechanical parts everything was solid. Only replacement brakes and exhaust. I was so happy with G series so I got 2011 G37x sedan and I had few issues within 4 years!

Scotty, I've owned many Nissan's and those old traditional transmissions were fine as long as you took care of them and didn't beat them. Now, I change the CVT every 25-30k w/ the paper filter! We have three Nissan's 18 Versa, 13 Sentra, 17 Pathfinder, but I maintain them like crazy! My '88 Camry is still better!

Hi Scotty, Thank you ...I have a 2004 Nissan X-terra and it is still going strong. It has been a fantastic SUV, low maintenance, reliable and solidly made. The major problems with this Nissan have been New England winters. Sorry to hear Nissan is making junk, I drove a few other SUV's that are supposed to be top of the line but drove like tin cans....not at all as solid as my old Nissan.

I always brought Nissan and Infiniti that was made in JAPAN. I haven’t had any issues. I had over 400,000 miles on my Nissan Pathfinder and I have over 300,000 on my M35 3.5 . I know lot of folks think Lexus is better but honestly I believe Nissan&Infiniti/Renault builds better reliable engines

My 2004 Lexus RX330 got 26 miles per gallon on the freeway effortlessly at 75 mph. 245 ft lbs torque and 230 hp, 5 speeds, and it’s easy driving. It was my very first car. I highly recommend a used Lexus RX as a teens first car if a teen wants an SUV that’s comfortable to drive but, does not want a gas hog while still having plenty of acceleration.

Hey Scotty! Thanks for the review. I sold Infiniti’s back in 2003-2004 when these models came out and the FM (Front Midship) RWD based platform with the 3.5 liter VQ engine was one of the most reliable and best handling value luxury cars in the market. I now own the latest and last Evolution of the FX35 on this platform (2017 QX70 Limited). It’s still on the FM (RWD) platform with a normal 7-Speed transmission and I see no Renault influence. There is no reason why this latest model is any less reliable. In fact, the 3.7 Liter V6 is much improved from the 3.5 liter in many ways. Do you have any experience with the newer model and can you tell us if you have seen any common issues on the QX70?

There’s been a lot of complaints with the clunkiness of the 7 speed at low speeds and hunts for gears too much, more so than the 5 speed in the 1st gen. Also, that 7speed that is also found the in g37 and the 370z are known to give out when the car is modified to produce more power. When looking at the q50 RS everyone points to the transmission as the biggest fault.

The thing lots of people do not understand is that tight packaging in engine bays make heat dissipation difficult and over time compact units degrade components simply because they are dealing with elevated tempartures. heat soaks down wiring and affects electronics, insulation breaks down and carbon can choke up internals much easier. Rear wheel drive have another huge benefit, the load on the tires is shared out much better. front turn and brake and the rear do the driving. One spirited session on a front wheel drive car can overheat your front tires and ruin their life.
