Repair or Replace my Dinghy? | Small Boat Restoration | Ultra Lite Dinghy Pt 2 (Ep72)

Now that I have dinghy davits on my trawler, there's problems with my dinghy row boat. The dinghy needs a certain lifting point for rigging dinghy davits to raise it. Every couple of weeks I post a boat building or boat repair video to document various boat projects, sailboat restorations, or boat repairs. And when all else fails, I tell stories of boat motivation.

Agree on checking date of manufacture. The Granger store that I deal with has a notice on the Loctite shelf, 'check the best before date '.

Yes, all adhesives and sealants have have a limited life. I've learned that the hard way. Purchasing stuff on sale then finding out later the sealants such as silicon, even when never opened, will not set up. I no longer purchase adhesives or sealants to stock for the future. Thanks for the tip. ⚓

Fix cheek blocks on either side of the davits and you can get rid of the top double block from each davit. That will give you three or four extra inches and, as a bonus, you should have a smoother action on the rope. I'ld also think about some drainage for the dinghy. If it is left on the davits whilst you are away from the boat some heavy rain could cause real problems.

An other solution is that you could reposition the block pulleys to between the cleat and the pulley at the end of the davit. This would solve the vertical clearance issue.

Nice job. That is right we’re I would have put them too. How much weight did the coosa backing and new fiberglass add to the dinghy?

Great questions Mark. I cover most of the details in the original build video. The bare fiberglass hull was 55lbs and the finished dinghy with the compartments and the fittings and rub rail 78lbs.

If you locate the rings in the bottom would that make the dinghy rock from being top heavy now? But if the rings are as close to the sides of the boat that may help.

Right, no matter what the dinghy must be secured to the davit to reduce swaying.
