As others have said, the 'subwoofer' is as passive radiator. It's a tuned mass spring system that works very much like a bass reflex port but is much better suited to small enclosures, another benefit of this design is that it allows the cabinet to be sealed which protects the inside from dust/moisture ingress

That looks like a passive radiator. It does increase the Bass. It should work. I have two huge floor standing speakers with passive radiator and it does make a difference.

I've got a pair of KS Bluetooth headphones. They look and feel pretty cheap, which they are as I only paid about £20 for them, but the sound quality is excellent for the price. Enjoyed the video 👍

Really good video, thank you! I watched because I wanted to know how to take it apart because the on-off switch is faulty online. Yes it's a cheap product and maybe labour intensive to debug and repair but anything we can save from going to the tip is good

Great video James I really enjoy this sort of content, its like getting some work experience without the hassle of workplace politics. Its quite sad to see such basic components failing these days especially in such low stress appliances such as that.

Strangely fascinating watching you work. I know nothing about electronics but really enjoyed this.

Update to my previous comment: when I took the circuit board out the on-off switch just fell off. It was only held on by two soldered contacts and there wasn't enough solder on them. I soldered it back on properly and it's working perfectly.

that subwoofer is called a passive radiator it uses the movement of the small speakers to move the passive speaker
@PeterBrockie8 жыл бұрын
Or they originally had a subwoofer in the design and omitted it for costs. :P

That speaker is available here in the U.S. under several different brands. I have purchased 2 of those speakers under the brand Hype Sound. Both speakers failed and stopped charging the battery in a matter of weeks of usage. It had great sound considering it was around $10-$15. The speaker was tossed in the garbage bin.

The battery is user replaceable? That's very good. Those batteries I think are cheap clones of Nokia batteries for certain Nokia mobile phones.

That 'passive' subwoffer was hysterical, couldn't stop laughing with you Frank! Great vid man. BTW, your channel is the 3rd I have found this week not showing up in my subscriptions box, which KZbin is stating is not their fault of late, however a lot of KZbinrs are complaining of this issue lately. Great pity as I look forward to your input. Just ion case you are noticing a drop in views in the last couple of weeks sir :(

I own my own business. Some things might not be worth the money, but you just want is done for some crazy reason, doesn't matter... I call this a labor of love and if you're luck you might just learn something, because you get to do things you would normally never do, but now you can because there's a understanding it might have to be replaced for 25 craps

The reason they didn't take 30 seconds and clean the board is the same reason you're so anal on time, I never once charged the going rate... You need compassion, the burning desire to concur the task, this builds a broader learning span joined with undercharging people and leaving the clock out is called good business. My clientele has exponentially grown since I used this method.

Nice diagnostic work there -- I have to say though I'd probably have taken the lazy/cowboy route replacing that tiny capacitor and just bodged a through-hole cap between the + and - leads themselves... yeah it's not ideal for a decoupling cap but meh :-)

When you can't find the number or barely make it out, take a dab of Artic Silver and wipe it on the chip, if it's etched ever so lightly you'll see it easily and sometimes printed.

wow didn't know those components could be soldered by hand.
@viperfrank7 жыл бұрын
normally I wouldn't, it's is quite fiddly to do with a soldering iron, I would normally use my hotair gun. but because of time restraints on this one I decided to opt for the soldering iron and a steady hand. It didn't go to bad, a bit messy but it worked. Thank you for your comment.

"It's a fake subwoofer". ...ummm, no. it's actually a passive radiator you noob
@viperfrank5 жыл бұрын
Oh sorry let me rephrase that. It's a poor man's subwoofer, But it's still cheap bit of Chinese shite, because I'm really sure that the Chinese manufacture would have done lots of research and development and finely tuned the acoustics of that cheap nasty poly plastic case. Passive radiators work on speaker cases that have been adequately designed to do so. But in the case of this plastic turd, it's a fake subwoofer. I do apologise if I would have known it would have offended you insulting your presous fake subwoofer I would have... No I'm sorry I can't lie I still wouldn't have given a fuck. Thank you for your comment.
