I came here after seeing you on Dave’s video. I hope you can find time to keep up making even a few videos for us, of what you’re doing as you move forward through your retirement. I think your audience appreciates you and the perspective that you offer and it would be a shame to not share that with us. I’ve subscribed and I wish you the best in your retirement. I’m at that point as well and am busier now than ever before, although I don’t get much done.

Congratulations on your retirement, I’m sure it is bittersweet. When the shop is all closed up and your ready to turn off the lights, I’d really be interested in purchasing some of your equipment. I have looked through most of your great videos, but I wish I could have found one about what soldering material, flux agents, gas etc that goes with what. My problem is soldering all the different metals together and obviously without damaging the glass from heat or the silver plating on the inside copper? You make it look so easy, but without the right materials, it's not, even though I consider myself handy. When I go and buy soldering material, there's 20-30 different from just one brand all with different percentage of this and that and no one seems to be able to tell me what to use where??? All answers are appreciated.

As an older man I am so glad you are getting to retire But I am going to miss your show There is one thing I would love to see before you go If you would consider A detailed description video on how the candle system works I would love to build some lamps for my house (Off grid homestead) And I think k those would be very classy For my porch and yard lights And possibly pathway

Are there any young people getting involved in the craft Rick that you are aware of? My Father (RIP) was apprenticed as a Tinsmith in New Zealand in the 1950's and they used to undertake all sorts of manufacturing and repairs to anything, well metal. His final test of his 5 year apprenticeship was to build from scratch a 2 gallon watering can only from the material provided, they had to make their own pattern and calculate the volume of water in the can, all done within 8 hours. The material provided was just enough, any mistake would see a failure awarded. I do admire all your videos very much. Watching from Taiwan.

I was quite surprised that the body of the lamp didn't get damaged when the heads got mashed so badly!

Same here. I was trying (unsuccessfully) to imagine the type of impact that might have crushed the heads and broken the one glass lens without doing more damage - if they were mounted at the time they were damaged.

dOOdEEE & Robert, Yup, that made me curious too. I think they were bought at an auction so no history. I suspect they were not on a carriage when damaged. Maybe something was dropped on them. They were obviously sitting in a barn or something for a few years judging by the accumulated tarnish and dirt.

Hi Iv just come across your vidio channels what great and very interresting work you do with those lamps. just a query on your soldering flux do you have a brand for it or do you make it up your self as the flux I used to buy has gone off the market witch was very good. So I retired 3 years ago at the age of 58 everybody says to me why so young. I always come back with young how many years you think I have left? And they give me a puzzled look and I say to them about their look yeah you can't figure it out either how much time do we have left? How much time do we have left...I don't know but I want to enjoy it a little bit so remember every night is Friday night and every day is Saturday and one other thing to remember you're not on vacation.
