I love that Asteroids cabaret. A restaurant near me had an Asteroids Deluxe cabaret back in 1981. I used to play that game all the time. Great memories

Very cool. When they brought this one to us to repair, I put it in the back room for a month or two before I got around to it, I had it in my head that it actually WAS an Asteroids Deluxe for some reason, then when I dug it out it's always been an Asteroids. Maybe the Deluxe was more common?

i have an asteroids upright. no picture. game plays on an o-scope. re capped deflect board and h/v cage. still no picture. i saw a video about the q901 transistor being bad.what do you think? would like to play this again soon. thank you. glen
@LyonsArcade2 жыл бұрын
Glen look close at the neck and see if it's glowing, you may just be missing the heater voltage which comes out of the power brick in the bottom. To get an inmage on the screen you need heater voltage, grid voltage, and high voltage on the anode. The high voltage comes through the high voltage diode on the flyback, the heater voltage comes from the fuses down below and the grid voltage is turned off by the spot killer on the deflection board if the deflection board has problems or it's not getting a good signal . You ruled out your gameboard so that's good, can you hear deflection chatter? If the deflection board is working you will hear a buzzing that changes as the image changes on the screen (even though you can't see it). If the 'spot killer' light is on, on the deflection board it still has problems. If it's chattering, your problem is probably the high voltage diode isn't making good contact inside the rubber boots it sits in.

I've been rediscovering a lot of these old games in emulation... but that can only ever be a distant substitute; it's *not* the same. Particularly for games with original controls that just don't map well onto a standard modern game controller, like Tempest.
