YOU GUYS ARE AN INSPIRATION. I've been a subscriber for several years and never miss a video. I recently bought a nice 09 plate Audi Q5, but within a fortnight I had someone pull out in front of me and my insurance company wrote it off as a cat N. It was a front passenger side impact, so had sustained damage to the bumper, headlight and wing. Needless to say, I bought it back and spent a weekend ripping it apart and watching your Audi Q5 series on repeat....... Armed with part numbers I spent a good few hours on the internet and sourced all the parts, mostly new/second-hand, genuine Audi. I'm nearly 60 and I've spent most of my life working with machines so I know how to wield a spanner. So with Chris's voice ringing in my ears I took my time getting the shut lines right. Fortunately the bonnet and door were untouched so I had some good datums to work with, but the wing was still on off, on off, on off.... but eventually I was happy. Everything else was plug and play. The numbers.... I bought it for £4500, which I got back and they even gave me a lovely Merc GLC to play with over Christmas..... I bought it back from the insurance company for £1100, parts £600, paint £420. So an Audi Q5 for £2120!!! To say i'm a happy bunny would be an understatement. Thank you guys, and I will be buying you a few coffees. Ian.

Just for general reference Rob if you have BMW that has a FRM and has been in smash then unplug the module/battery during repairs. One of the FRMs jobs is to look after the lights and if there is a short on any of them the FRM will continue to 'test' whether the short is still there. After a number of tries ( I can't remember what it is anymore off the top of my head) the module will 'permanently' disable power to prevent fire. I say permanently as BMW say it can't be reset and you'll have to buy a new module and have it coded etc. In reality there are ways of reenabling the FRM but that takes a bit of Googling.

You probably could to be fair, it looks more intimidating than it really is. I'd never done anything like this before my old BMW got flooded and I wanted to try and salvage it instead of scrapping it. I started with disconnecitng the battery and pulling all the vents out, glove box, radio etc and all the other stuff that's easily removed. I pulled the steering wheel out as well because the dash on the E46s is pretty cumbersome. The hard part isn't really getting it out or keeping track of the number of screws and such, it's getting the bastard to fit back in and that's not so bad if you get someone to give you hand.
