Festool is pretty popular in NL, probably because it's a brand that's made by our neighbours, especially carpenters swear by that brand. Yes they are expensive, but the KS120 mitresaw/TS55 plungesaw/OF1010 router and CS70 table saw are probably among if not the best machines in their league. Festool machines having done over 15 years of work are no exception, I see them all the time in our workshop. Also people seem to forget you are somewhat paying for their 3 years all inclusive warrenty, which means everything will be repaired in those 3 years for free, whereas every other brand will label leads/brushes/mechanical parts as wearable parts and therefore not warrenty. Even if the machine is broken due to a customers fault like a machine falling down the stairs, they will repair it 1 time for free. Thank you for the video Dean, was nice seeing a Festool for a change.

Just knowing that festool looks after you with cheap(ish) spares compared to other manufacturers, has changed my mind about the tools.

I think the litmus test for any tool manufacturer to be consider "professional " is if they are economical to repair, if they're not economical to repair, then they are just "cheap' disposable's with over inflated prices, case in point Milwaukee and Hilti, its cheap £50 DIY tools you thrown in bin if something breaks on them, not tools supposedly for professionals costing £100+ "quality" and expensive items should be economically maintainable !

The problem with festool is that they really hook you into their system, such as the proprietary locking power lead, that said they build to last and service, love the fact you can access the parts lists and diagrams online, have been steadily buying and repairing a decent collection of festool kit now, somehow I blagged a kapex needing a motor refurb kit for less than the kit costs with all accessories! So for me it's a no brainier to get a kapex for less than the cheapest dual bevel mitre saw I can buy from DIY store....

Glad to have an objective review of a Kapex machine. It's widely known as having the best dust extraction. So apart from work shops it's also excellent for tradesmen who work in quarters where ppl currently live or work, like finish/trim carpenters in houses and offices.

One other tip, when it comes to fitting and removing the 50mm m5 bolt at the rear of the housing, dean removes the plastic arm, you don't need to, instead engage extra depth mode (pull the carriage forward, pull the spring loaded leaver at the rear on the bevel mechanism forward and push the carriage back on it till it goes click) now when you push down the saw head the extra depth enabled allows the bolt to align with the access hole in the plastic piece and you can easily access it without risking the plastic clips holding that plastic bit in and you don't need to force the bolt head over the casting the carriage rails are connected too.

In my opinion, a very high initial cost but with long durability and replacement parts at a reasonable cost in the end they are a good deal. 17 years of use, the engine is replaced and it still runs, it really seems like a good deal to me.

That was true 17 years ago. Not so much these days. I'm a kapex owner with a fried motor after an embarrassingly low number of cuts. And my table was warped. The dust collection is not enough without a hood to work in a client's home either.

To be fair I have an old einhell mitter saw, probably 20 years old. I literally cut scrap wood to make firewood with it. Tools from 15 years ago were simply made better. Festool are too expensive for most people, a cordless track saw kit is like over 1000 euros, doesnt even come with the 300 bucks rail, if you want the drill to use the same battery thats another 300.
@markojuros6533

@@zaxmaxlax It is very true that the tools from 15 or 20 years ago were reliable and durable, I have a black and decker drill 20 years ago, made in England but inside it has German parts, considered for domestic use but I have made a living with that machine , it never overheats, but the gear and the bushings are quite worn, I hope to one day find those parts and use it again. I am quite far from purchasing Festool, that is why I chose Bosch to gradually replace my old tools, if they give me only half the time of that old drill I am more than satisfied.

That saw has done it’s time and then some. Festool is my brand of choice. Nice video Dean. I don’t know how you remember where all the parts go when it’s a tool you don’t deal with all the time. 😂 I had a Festool PSB 300 110V jigsaw that I used on site. It lasted over 10 year, cutting and scribing chipboard and MDF, 40mm worktops, coping skirting and it got dropped weekly. Worth every penny, it was accurate until the day it died.

I guess it also comes down to what type of work you do. I wouldn't recommand Makita if you are into carpentry, but I wouldn't recommand Festool if you are into construction either.
@michaelfairchild
@michaelfairchild 4 ай бұрын
@@ElMariachi1337 I own both and as a Makita fan, I was sold with Festool due to more sturdy build. Makita seems more flexiable. I got to give some grief to Makita for not updating their Makpac line, cause they still use same old design that Festool used, since both of them took their boxes from Tanos company. Other factor is also pricing. Makita version of Sortainers is 50-100% more expensive than actual Festool, but its completely opposite when it comes to their normal boxes. I do agree that I would not run around with Festool boxes around random construction, but for a different reason. Then again Festool is a company more aimed at cabinet making and things like finishing kitchens etc.

my ks120 burnt out a couple of months back so i sent it back to festool uk and they repaired it for actually a lot cheaper than i anticipated. £230 all in which i thought was a very fair price. new motor, new brushes, new blade guard, new angle adjust lever and something else also... weirdly enough its now quieter than it used to be. its a 9 year old machine. my ts55 has just gone in also as part of the housing was damaged. thats an 11 year old machine so see what happens there

Possibly bcs Festool knows that an owner - in 99% of the cases - will use their dedicated repair shops instead of an independent shop as the majority of these are professional tradesmen with no time/cannot afford to wait for parts. It's just another way a company makes money.

This is the correct way to look after your customers. Fesstool have put a lot of thought into their design to produce an accurate mitre saw which will last for many years without repair. €170 plus labour is little to pay for 17 years of reliability. I am surprised that they not only supply the whole motor and drive assembly but also the electronic driver board.

@NitroTrinker 4 ай бұрын
Ahhhh watch out. Parts for Festool are pretty expensive. There are some maschines with these kits and so the repair is doable. If you buy this parts seperatly, you will pay a lot more. For a TS 55 the armature only costs ~120€.

@@NitroTrinker probably but my point is that the equipment is well made and gives many years of work without repair - that is not common these days with few exceptions. So purchasing quality repair parts is a good investment to give a quality tool more good years of service.

Unfortunately for newer versions (Kapex 120 REB) the same set is 300 Euro. As for accuracy - Makita LS 1219L is as accurate as Kapex, but has 12" cutting capability. As for dust collection - nothing special, again Makita LS 1219L is as good as Kapex. I have both and Kapex is smaller and lighter plus when bought with side stands is easier to set-up. But with those stands (KS 120 REB-Set-UG) it is 2800 Euro while Makita with WST-05 or WST-06 stand is 1200 Euro. Great video as always.
