Don't/shouldn't you bleed the air after removing the fluid?

Generally, yes. In this case, since the fill hole is basically at the top and not an airtight seal it bleeds itself the first time you use it.

Now on content, who is going to make their own part like that for a $50 ram? I need to fix mine, and I have a lathe too, but f-no not going to spend all day doing that.
