Repairing a Harbor Freight Hydraulic Ram

I had a pump failure on the hydraulic ram of a Harbor Freight engine hoist, definitely due to poor materials. In this video I spend way too much time fabricating and repairing a part you can buy for a lot less. Why? Because I can.

JB weld in the bore would prob work well.

If you had added two or three o-rings, would that have helped stabilize it?

Any more and they'd probably pull out on the up stroke and just get torn up

Don't/shouldn't you bleed the air after removing the fluid?

Generally, yes. In this case, since the fill hole is basically at the top and not an airtight seal it bleeds itself the first time you use it.

@@YoshimoshiGarage sorry to pick on you, sometimes I get triggered...there is one youtuber in particular that says ".. right now", and follows it with an informercial. Now on content, who is going to make their own part like that for a $50 ram? I need to fix mine, and I have a lathe too, but f-no not going to spend all day doing that.
