Your video turned into a fix on my Frigidaire stove buddy. I, too, had a blackened area in the most often used stove burner switch. That increased the resistance, or the wire I found that wasn’t sufficiently tightened from the factory. Anyway, new switch, new terminal block, back in business (all wiring looked pristine). Here’s a homeowner saying “Thank you sir” with great sincerity.

This may be a dumb question, but what is actually happening to trip the breaker here? Was the connection that melted out of the terminal block touching the chassis or the other connections? Obviously it needed to be replaced but I'm just curious how the terminal block being melted was causing the oven to pull too much current and trip the breaker, or if it was melted as a result of the oven drawing too much current or something else I'm just completely missing. (To be clear I know nothing about appliance repair and don't want to sound like I'm questioning your judgement, I'm just genuinely curious what's happening)

❤ what causes a stove to start popping the breaker? Stove has been in the apt for 10 years. No issues before. Tenant asked for new burners, but they were just replaced in 2021, so not burned out. ❤. Probably will just replace stove for 569 at Lowe’s. Thank you for your video. ❤

Just saw this today, Lex. I have had to replace about 3 in my work experience. It's always been the left terminal and I have had to replace only 1 wire going upward to the infinite switches. I have kept the wiring harness for emergency wire to use when I scrap a stove. Especially if it takes too many switches or oven controller parts. The owners would rather replace oven if parts overun the cost of new appliances.

Nice vid man. Question: Any idea how much a new terminal block would set u back usually? Also, is a terminal block the kind of thing ur local electrical parts store should stock? Or is it something where u gotta have one specifically for that oven/model.

Hi Lex, my oven trips my entire apartment after about 5 minutes of heating up. The rest of the stove plates work just fine. Would this be an issue with the element? (it just a little hot before it trips the mains). If so, could I simply switch off the oven circuit at the circuit board (or swithh off the entire mains for that matter) and replace the element myself? Do I need to take any further precautions? (I don't know how to use a multimeter). With all this being said, I have utmost respect for the repairmen profession - this just seems like an easy fix and I will feel good doing some DIY. Kind regards from South Africa.
@LexVance
@LexVance 5 жыл бұрын
That's hard to tell by not being there. Lift up the stove top & look under it & see theres a burned or loose wire. Also, it could be the terminal block in the back where the plug goes. A burned loose wire is my guess. Hard to tell by not being there. Thank you so much for watching! www.DirtyMaintenanceNation.com

@Trenttabor
@Trenttabor 3 жыл бұрын
On the terminal block would there be an issue with wiring the black directly to the black that supplies the oven, on the same screw, as opposed to the screw below it. Theyre connected by the metal block so I would like that wouldn't matter.

@LexVance
@LexVance 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, your refrigerator is on a totally different circuit than the oven. The oven is 240 volts & fridge is 120. I think it's just the oven wiring or a bad oven breaker. The fridge is fine & shouldn't have anything to do with it.Thank you so much for watching J Z!

was it just my eyes/camera trickery or was the old pigtail smaller gauge wire, like 30 amp/10awg dryer cable? also when you have a 4 wire/4-prong pigtail and outlet, remove the copper bonding strap going from "neutral terminal" to "ground". it's there in case of older building with 3-wire/3-prong outlets, it bonds the metal oven case to neutral leg. the same applies to dryers. the code changed long ago for safety, if the neutral opens between appliance and panel you can get a shocked/killed from the oven case to anything else grounded. they were all that years ago (think the code change was in 1996)
