"Now all that's left to do is everything" That got a chuckle out of me. Thanks for doing these videos! Highly entertaining and fascinating to see such an in depth look at the behind-the-scenes of brass repair.

"Now what's left to do is everything." aka the battle cry of so many vocations centered on repair. Wes, you need to put this on a T-shirt, along with some sort of Wes Lee logo of course, if you ever start 'selling merch'.

Ya been there done that. Plus I hand Lapp the tubes to smooth action at the end. Eliminates the slide jerkiness when you put grease.and

I do that as well sometimes, in fact had to do that on 4 of the next ones after this video, but the video one seemed fine with just grease.

Once again another super video. Have you thought of getting an ER32 collet chuck for your mini lathe? I have two for mine. One is on a taper that hooks up quickly, runs true, but does not allow parts to go through the spindle. The other bolts on in place of the 3 jaw. Does not run as true, but allows stock to run through the spindle. The ER collets have a range of .04”, but I like them because they distort fragile work pieces way less than the three jaw does. Just a thought.

@@bruhsoundeffect8455 5C collets are good. I have some for my 12x36” lathe. However the ER collets are slotted from both ends so they collapse evenly along their length and with 8 cuts rather than 3, they are better at holding fragile round work pieces. I sometimes use an adapter that allows placing ER32 collets on the 12x36” lathe when I need them.

I’m going to be getting one. Do you have brand and model preferences? I was so loosely chucked in, but running a deadline felt I just had to go for it. Worked out fine this time, but need more options moving forward. Thanks for the suggestions, Doug!

Hey Wes, so i have a question. My wife is a band director and we dont have a good instrument repair tech in our area. Where should i start for learning how to become a technician? Should I go to school, teach myself, or is it worth it? I like fixing things and figuring out if I can fix it. So this appeals to me. Thanks!

I'd love to learn how to repair instruments. Learned how to round out mouthpieces and it's was pretty fun.

I wonder when the time it took you to repair the tubing is worth more than replacement cost of a new piece of tubing. Are there other constraints such as unavailability of new parts or the time it would take to get them?

At 0:27, I've never seen a slide like that! Horrible! Cool as sculpture or something (pineapple-like) but bad for slide tube! Great repair!
