Repairing my Broken Landcruiser rear axle in my Driveway - Wheel Bearing 70 series

Gday everyone and Welcome back to the channel,After our trip was cut short on the previous episode i thought i would do a little video on repairing the landcruiser. This video is not intended as a tutorial more just entertainment, i am not a qualified mechanic but just enjoy working on my car, Hope you enjoy it .

Great home fix and repair skill. Looks like Toyota's rear axel width correction should have been done in manufacture, people are paying to correct it and again when the longer axels fail not good but few other issues over 8 years pretty good overall. The patrols are stronger but also do CVs when pushed excessively such are the costs of having fun on hard bush tracks.

Ah, the old cone washer, forgotten all about them as we bailed from our 76 many years ago, thanks for the memory, not. Hopefully our Patrol rear end lives up to the Patrol reputation, lovely and strong. Bet you're glad this happened close to home and not recently in the high country - camper in tow, that would have created some issues for you. You now need to get back out there and keep the videos coming in to keep us entertained, you gave me a good reason to sit here and enjoy a bourbon or two tonight watching this one. 🧋🧋🤒🤒

The patrol driveline seems to be a bit more stronger although i have put mine through a bit and yes glad that didn’t happen in the high country, i would have fixed it down there i say. Great video Shad and informative, finally got a chance to watch it mate. Glad you got it sorted mate and replaced 2 instead of the one that was broken. Peace of mind 👍 My wife and I get our trutracker installed in 2 weeks for a 3780kg GVM upgrade for our new 79. Done a lot of research on this and I reckon it’s a good bit of kit. Great work Shad. The saving you made on the labour along is worth doing at home. I recently had to get my power-steering pump replaced. The labour and part cost me over $1K.

Great video. About to install the TTracker myself. Any thoughts or comments about axle strength? Your rear extended shackles maybe pointing your diff yoke up. Had a similar thing on my Troopy and corrected it with wedges to get rid of the vibration. Great work 👍

Im happy with the axle’s strength, they make them to oem spec , so any stronger and you risk breaking something else first maybe diff centre. Ive had that in for probably 7 years and my car is mainly towing and offroad so i can’t complain. Was thinking of changing that rear spring set up actually. Thanks for watching

Yeah Grant they're great. I got one for engine oils. Was a gift. Can screw the cover back on then pour the old oil back into a container to take to someone who can recycle it. Must get one for diff oil and another for Auto tranny oils. And Shad use an air hammer with a soft anvil or get a hammer/chisel thingy for your battery makita platform that might work as well. Really talks to them pesky cone washers

Pleased to see you got it fixed. I'm planning to service the bearings in my 2018 76 soon. First time I'll be doing the work myself on a 70. Do you activate the rear locker before removing the axles? Also do you remove the abs sensors - assuming your 2016 model will be similar? Cheers mate

Yes 💯 activate the rear locker , i should have said that. Abs sensors stay Be careful and take your time 👍
