If you use a wed sponge on the smaller holes you have less dust and less work

When you stuff the holes you use less compound.

Yes people stuff the holes with newspapers, paper towels and even toilet paper why I have no idea? I think they think they're saving on compound and money. The best way is to just fill the hole with compound then put the sticky sheetrock tape or the regular paper sheetrock tape then put more compound on it even though they say with the sticky tape you don't really need to but you should still do it. Unless it's a big hole bigger than your first then you would want to cut a square around the hole take some thin pieces of wood or you can even use paint sticks and stick the wood into the hole in the wall and put some screws through the wall into the wood to hold it tight to the wall it depends on the size if the hole will tell you on how many pieces of wood you will need (it could be 1 - 3 or 4 pieces). You'll want to measure the hole then cut a piece of sheetrock just a little smaller than the hole then putty around the hole and then tape and put some more on it. It looks like you don't have big holes like that but I'm just letting you know just in case you ever need to!
