You probably did what I'd do, cracking/breaking/dropping stuff. This is the best video for accessing/repair/parts needed I've seen for this job.

Thank you so much for the tips. I would have missed that one about the screws. Yes, agreed, a piece of sticky something or a magnetic box spanner set would do it .

And btw, typical of car manufacturers today, it's difficult to take bits apart without breaking those plastic fittings. Never mind....good job. Thank you.

To anyone doing this fix, I had luck simply adding solder to each area the existing LED's attach to the strip. My guess is the solderless factory attachment method of stamp crimping the LED's loosens/oxidizes between the connections over time.

You don’t have to replace the light assembly…the problem is the crimps on the LED’s. This assembly had no dynamic parts so the issue is the connections and crimps always give it up over time. Force a blade screw drive in the seam of the light and give a small pry all aroung the lens going around and around prying more and more as you go and POP!! Notice the crimps on the LED’s. put solder past on the crimp and flow solder on the joint (800 Degree soldering tip recommended). When the solder flows move on to the next LED…not the same one…let it cool. The white wire is + so stick straight pins in the connector and check on the car battery. It will work and if not, you have a cold solder joint so redo. There are no dynamic devices in this light so flow the solder and it will work. Seal the lens to the assembly by scraping RTV into the lens lip and the base when assembled. It will not take much so be cool. Good Luck Guys…I’ve done several this way…takes from start to finish about 45 minutes…just say cool and don’t force anything.

White LEDs behind red lens isn't the prettiest, while white LEDs on their own are brighter, a lot of that light will be filtered out, there is actually very little "red" in that white LED, even warm white will perform better, I'd get red LEDs instead for sure

I have a 3rd brake light on a 2005 srx at the top of the tailgate. It appears to be a integrated unit and is part of the hatch. I haven't found anything or anyone that can describe what has to be dismantled to get to the light. It's cracked so the whole light unit has to be replaced. I've heard I have to remove the whole rear hatch from the body of the car. Any ideas ?? Thanks in advance

Most vehicles I my I had to Disassemble from inside. I’m not sure about your vehicle. I was suggest you try to get the schematics for your vehicle. The schematics would give you a detail on how to disassemble. I hope that helps good luck
Those leds wouldn’t last so long lik the older one

Thanks for the feedback. FYI, I recently sold my vehicle. Those lights were still working with no problems. Well worth the time and money in fixing it. Please remember to subscribe to the channel and like the video.
