@jamesgornall5731

More where that came from, unlike storm shadow/scalp missiles, under 1000 total made and now long out of production. How many to destroy an S400 component (whole system includes radars, control centres, individual missile batteries, logistics vehicles) and which component hit? Nobody mentions, ever, the complete devastation of Ukraine's 100+ S-300 systems, which did the large majority of interception work and not the Patriot, yet another point-defence system, as is commonly believed. Now they lie in ruins, even Oryx confirms this. The surviving units have no ammo, even after scavenging from other nations.

@@maryginger4877China and Russia are allies as much as they are rivals. China has been stealing their tech for decades, and selling the reproductions at discount prices to 3rd world countries. Ruining Russia's weapons export business, they also keep fighting against India which Russia prefers to deal with rather than China. Some Chinese are immigrating into Russia and taking over local jobs. The US just pushed Russia into China's hands. Now China holds all the cards. Russia is having to sell their resources for cheap just to maintain the cash flow. If China decides to invade Taiwan Russia will help them directly or indirectly. The hypersonic missile tech and the latest submarine technology itself could make things very difficult for the west if it gets into Chinese hands. I assume, Russias first goal is to completely take the annexed oblasts of Zaporishia, Donetsk and Luhansk and to install a "security zone" all along the Border to Kharkiw and Sumy. Their tactics of attrition, spreading and exhausting of the ukrainian army is working pretty well. If Russia faces strong resistance at one point, they simply open up or re-open small scale offensives at other points. If they recognise kinds of weakness there, they continue. Russia got the initiative and reacts pretty fluent. I can't see how Ukraine with it's limited ressources of men and equipment will stop them. In my believe, Ukraine should start negotiatons asap to reduce the losses among territory, men and infrastructure. At least, the war is lost.

I've seen a sniper from the Russian Army who said that during one night he shot three Ukrainian soldiers, sentinels, in the same one spot. He couldn't understand how was it possible that none changed position, or do something to avoid being the next in line. Ukrainians are mindset to hold on to their initial plan or thought, or intention, to the very end, an inheritance from their Swedish ancestors, who had to be that persistent in order to survive in their unforgiving, resource-deprived land. I remember a novel from Tolstoy saying the same (about Swedes) - they push the fight wat beyond reason. I think this is an important part of Ukraine's monotone use of tactics. They've got one, they stick to it.

One interesting common feature with the Swedes is that they cannot pronounce the letter "g" . Swedes say Yo-te-bo-ree instead of Goteborg, their capital, Ukrainians say Serhiy instead of Sergey (Serge), and Englishmen, as a gift from their Norman (Norse-men - Swedes...) conquerors, say war instead of guerre, the French word the Normans learned. They skipped the "g". Finns are a mixture of Swedes with... Huns. Their language is called Ungro-Finnic No Finns in this story.

The uselessness of such missiles mounted on a marine drone primarily stems from the fact that even if hit, they will not cause much damage to a warship. To understand Russia's tactics, and its advantage, you first need to understand Ukraine's goals. Ukraine is trying to maintain a defense line of more than a thousand kilometers with limited means. There are strategically important areas everywhere along this line of defense. And each of them can be attacked by Russia. Ukraine does not know, and will not be able to find out which of these important sites will be attacked and which will not. If Russia were moving in one or two directions, the Armed Forces of Ukraine could strengthen the defense in these areas at the expense of quiet places. But Russia uses tactics, spontaneous, not deep advances, in different sectors of the front. Choosing those areas of the front where Ukraine is least ready for this. Ukraine has no other options but to constantly transfer forces, fending off these attacks. Ukraine's weak point, a limited number of forces for a very large defense. Russia's advantage is to force the APU to bear as many losses as possible. Reducing the already small forces. Many analysts make one recurring mistake when doing analysis. They attribute to Russia those goals that it does not have. In every offensive, they try to see something more than what it is. The advance near Kharkov has already reached its limits. Now he has a different goal in front of him. Now Russia will try to ensure that the Armed Forces of Ukraine, trying to counterattack or stabilize the front line, suffer as many losses as possible. Could Russia completely occupy the northern district of Volchansk left by the Ukrainians? Why didn't she do it? Let's recall the assault on Bakhmut. The last stage of the defense of Bakhmut was a disaster for the AFU. They were constantly driving reinforcements to a limited location in the city. And there it was immediately destroyed by artillery. Now we see an invitation from Russia to repeat Bakhmut in Volchansk. The APU's attempts to respond to false attacks cannot be called a mistake. All attacks are directed at strategic targets, and if the APU does not defend them, a false attack will simply become a real one. Strategically, this is an inevitable decision. It is a mistake to get into places like Volchansk. Where the APU is guaranteed to suffer heavy losses. But this mistake reflects all the flaws of the Ukrainian ideology. The idea of national superiority requires great heroic deeds. Every time starting an operation, the AFU command is raving about the complete defeat of Russia. The disgusting quality of the APU is its complete disregard for the lives of its soldiers. For this regime, they are only a tool for achieving their "heroic victory". The combination of these flaws condemns the APU to get into every new Bakhmut. And Russia sees it.

its more of a distraction than anything to get the drone to get close to hit the ship. you basically have a machine gunner seeing like 5-10 rockets coming at him and he likely wont shoot the drone but take cover.
@ДмитрийСвергин
@ДмитрийСвергин 4 ай бұрын
@@giovanni-ed7zq These missiles can be shot down with a machine gun. And what he will see will not be missiles flying at him. Willie is right, he will see rockets flying somewhere. I think that attaching missiles to a drone indicates that Russia has managed to destroy the production of these drones. And now the APU is trying to figure out how to make the remaining drones reusable. And yet, the question may also be related to quantity. Perhaps a dozen missiles from a drone won't be able to do anything. But what if there are two dozen drones themselves? These missiles do not have accuracy at a distance. But the drone was designed in such a way as to swim close enough to the target.

The S-400 is typically deployed as part of echeloned air defense. Which makes it more difficult to hit, because you have both Pantsir-SM and something like "Tunguska" protecting it from low flying threats like drones. The S-300 is sometimes deployed on its own, near lower value targets and they are often highly mobile, in order to compensate for lack of echeloned defense, which is good on one hand, but really bad on the other, because it can be hit while it's being deployed on a new location, and in the few minutes that it takes it to become operational - it is highly vulnerable. It all depends on how quickly the Ukrainian side can receive the updated intelligence, and on the flight time of the incoming missile, or drone, as well on whether there are Russian fighter jets patrolling the area. But you could sort of guesstimate which system it was just based on the value of the target it was protecting.

The hard part is a unipolar system could work. The problem though is that it relies on the U.S at the moment. If the U.S maintained its neutral status rather than trying to be the world police, it probably would not have started to move towards a duo system like we're seeing. Since they use it for the benefits of themselves and their own partners as a weapon. Which as we've seen just breeds a lot of hatred towards the West.

No, a unipolar world order can never work because of human nature. Every time in history when too much power was concentrated in one place, people inevitably started abusing it. Rome, the Catholic Church during the middle ages, the colonial powers, the examples are endless. From the moment the USSR collapsed, it was inevitable that USA would start to abuse its power.

Great video, Willy. At, say, the operational level, you introduced some commentary from one of your trusted friends suggesting that the Russian goal has always been to gain the coastal land bridge to Crimea, and that the Kharkiv offensive is just doing what it was supposed to do, that is, draw off Ukrainian forces. I think that is a most reasonable interpretation. At, say, the geostrategic level, you suggest (@ 30:00 mark) an overall strategic error on the part of the 'West', that of moving the Russian and Chinese regimes into alliance. I agree with that assessment as well. We have been living a tri-polar world for some time now, and to the extent balance-of-power theory holds water, we should have been most keen to keep the advantage of US-Russia on one side of the see-saw and China on the other.
