So if the top hose is hot and the bottom hose is cold. Does that mean it's still a thermostat problem?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 8 ай бұрын
It sounds like the thermostat might be stuck in the closed position. Just saw this post, did you get this resolved?

Sons 2010 not putting out warm air and we changed the thermostat. Could it be the selector switch? Heater core hoses are warm so I'm thinking that's what it is..?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 3 жыл бұрын
If there is no air pocket in the system it might also be a plugged heater core. If you take a garden hose and go pack and forth between the two heater core pipes coming out of the fire wall you will flush it out, you might see a bunch of crud fly out of there.

If someone has used hose water and you have hard water in your area it could be full of calcium and white chalky stuff. I used CLR to clean mine out and it work great. Just don't leave it in there to long because it can damage the heater core.

You would need a TPMS tool to see which one is bad. A tire store can do this and replace it for you.

Hello. Over on the right side of the engine there is a dark red plastic piece with white at either end (it shows up often in this video). It looks like there are yellow wires coming out of it. Do you know what that goes to? My mechanic unplugged it when he changed the serpentine belt and forgot to plug it back together. My car has been overheating and I wanted to see if that was the problem, but I’m not sure what that is connected to? Maybe the fan or the thermostat? Thanks.
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure (I don't have the truck in front of me). I would trace the wires to see if it goes to the electric fan. Did you plug them back in together?
@JohnSmith-zd9ou
@JohnSmith-zd9ou 2 жыл бұрын
@@HomeOwnerRepair Thanks for replying. It looks like the wires go to the fan that's in front of the radiator. I'm not sure if that powers the fan (or just the fan) or other stuff as well (such as the water pump or the thermostat? The mechanic plugged them back together when he saw it. He asked me if I unplugged it? I said, "uhhh, no!" I think he unplugged it when he was changing the serpentine belt a few months prior and forgot to reconnect it. I had brought it back in to him because it would overheat when I used the A/C.

I have an explorer 2008 and can't find where the coolant is leaking from. I think it's the thermostat. Engine runs high and loud when cold start and goes back to normal after 30-40 seconds approx. when I start driving it. What else could it be and how can I know it's actually the thermostat?
@HomeOwnerRepair
@HomeOwnerRepair 7 ай бұрын
You may want to check around the bottom of the water pump, radiator, radiator hoses and hoses in the engine bay that led to the heater core as well. These are all very common places to develop and antifreeze leak.

You might have to put some pressure under the head of the bolt as you unscrew it to see if you can back it out that way. Hope this helps you out.

Our explorer was leaking at the housing and we took it to Ford to have it replaced. After we got it back it took for ever to heat up and i couldn't figure out why. So i pulled the housing off and to my surprise there wasn't a thermostat in it. They replaced the housing but didn't replace the thermostat. I called them and they actually said "the work order was just for a replacement housing" i said are you fu#&*?: kidding me? When someone comes in and needs new tires you put air in them right? The guy said "ya but we don't charge for that" i said i am surprised because you guys charged us $350 to replace the thermostat housing and didn't even replace the $10 thermostat that goes in it.

I use to run a auto shop there is really no excuse for what they did to you and what a poor excuse for why they forgot to put in a thermostat. If this was done at my shop it would have been included its just common sense
