This is how we do it in Australia because we don't always have access to US special tools. i use a goose neck out of a old bicycle its the part that slides down inside the front fork and holds handlebars on. I cut about 3/4" off a bit of pipe then one cut down middle to make up the gap between goose neck and inside of bearing, slide inside bearing so as not to grab bearing divider and then tighten the long bolt that spreads goose neck as tight as possible then put drift through otherside and tap tap out she comes

Is there any space between the spacer and inside and the bearings on either side? Like can it move at all? Mine has a little play room when I put my spacer in
@KnobleMoto3 жыл бұрын
There should be no space there. When you tighten your axle, it squeezes your outer spacers, the inner races and the inner spacer together.

WOULD YOU WANT THIS MECHANIC TO WORK ON YOUR HARLEY DAVIDSON ???????? THAT TOOK A TON OF MONEY TO BUY ???
@KnobleMoto4 жыл бұрын
First of all, I don't want to work on your bike and I won't work on your bike. The whole point of Knoble Moto is to teach YOU how to fix YOUR bike. This video was initially an attempt to do a repair that did not require special tools, and it could hopefully be done by the average person in their garage. But repairs do not always go as planned, and this was definitely one that did not go smoothly. I discussed this on the video in print and verbally. If you watched the entire video you would have seen that. I have no secrets here. I shared the video in hopes that not only would people learn a thing or two about wheel bearings and why sometimes you need that special tool. But I also hoped it would help show that repairs do not always go as planned and it is okay to fail. Confidence and knowledge is what I am trying to share on my channel and in this world. How about you?

Mostly agreed. Using the proper tool is the main point of the video. But you can hammer the bearing in, you just need to make sure your point of pressure and point of resistance is through the same race, and not across a ground surface.

Ok so instead of all this just get a drum sander grommet.. Fully tighten in one bearing then use a brass rod and rubber mallet from the other side and save all that skate board bearing removal for skateboards...p.s. Use a board over the bearing to apply even pressure and use a RUBBER MALLET or leadshot mallet to reseat the bearing 😅 youll never have to file again
@KnobleMoto Жыл бұрын
Or you can use the proper tool for bearing removal. Also I used a socket for even load distribution on the outer race when driving the new bearing in. If you use wood, the wood will compress around the race and damage the seal the protects the ball bearings. Then the bearing will be junk. Plus if your using an intermediate item like a socket or wood, the hammer face structure doesn’t really matter because the bearing is insulated from the impact. I could have use a claw hammer or a rock and it would have had the same effect.

@KnobleMoto3 жыл бұрын
Well they are not taper roller bearing they are ball bearings. And if you hit the outer race with a driver against the point of friction it is fine. Also you don’t wait until bearings go out to change them. Once mileage gets high enough, replacement becomes preventative maintenance. If you listen to the audio of the video, I explain most of this in there.
