How do your knowing the struts is bad or if the ball joints my 1999 Toyota Corolla is make this sound around the front tire and it's getting worst every day I love this car I will fixed it if l knew what was wrong please help me

I have the same noise which started immediately after a couple motor mounts were replaced at Firestone. Took the car to a different mechanic to diagnose the problem and this jackass actually told me "everything looked real tight down there. it must have been your hood prop rod rattling making the noise", and he cut a little piece of rubber tubing and glued it onto the rod and asked for 43 dollars for his service. I am pretty sure the noise is the coming from the strut and am looking at trying to do it on my own.

Just curious about your comments on aftermarket and factory strut bolts and if it has factory strut bolts you won't need an alignment. I don't understand if you put in new struts it would change your alignment and you never mentioned torquing anything to specs. Very clear instruction and great camera work to show what you are talking about. Good job!

How do you know the strut has gone bad? My car is acting weird but I'm not sure how to know whats causing it.

Bad struts will often manifest going over speed bumps (slamming etc). Also they will cause cupping of tires (Google’s images)

Yes, some struts are attached using an adjustor bolt that’s why it’s important to mark everything before you take it apart so that you can put it back the same way. But many cars do not have this feature and it is not necessary

Torque Specs: Strut-to-steering knuckle bolts/nuts 203ftlbs. Strut upper mounting bolts 29ftlbs. Source: Haynes Repair Manual #92036
