Interesting to see how those germans succeed in making it so difficult to change a little headlight bulb. For my toyota corolla it took only 5 minutes for both, no tools needed at all:)

Fietspomp Yeah, but a Toyota Corolla is not an Audi A4 ;) Germans make "a couple" of things better than the rest making cars.

I used this to change the high beam on a 2006 A4 cabriolet. There was no need to displace the entire headlight fitting. just remove the air intake entirely (both sides as described at 4:44 in this video), and then the clip for the back of the high beam is visible, and you can access that bulb from there. Thanks to the poster for the video!

mate your bolts look so fresh after so many years, if you live in canada like i do, every bolt is rusted dead in place. pain in my ass mending my audi.

Didn't even have to remove the air intake. Took me about 5 minutes to change both lights. Thanks for the video!

I have a 2005 Audi A4. Although this video is certainly helpful, there are many changes to the 2005/2006 model. Among them: At the top part of the lamp assembly, the fastener closest to the center is a long machine screw mounted lower than the other one, slightly behind the grill. It is in a bracket with an open-ended slot. (It is simple to remove the section of the air duct that is connected to the grill brace, and you have better access after doing so.) After removing the two fasteners at the top, I searched and searched in vain for the fastener at the lower part of the assembly, but never succeeded in locating it. I even looked from underneath the car. Totally stumped. I did determime that in order to romove the round cover at the back of the assembly, you must have a T20 bit. There are, or should be, two T20-head screws holding that cover in place, but you'll never get to the second without detaching the headlamp assembly and sliding it forward. Alas. As for bulbs, you did the right thing first removing the whole deal to see what you have. You almost bought a D1S (that's a Xenon bulb), and fortunately found out you only needed an H7 (a halogen bulb) instead. I bought an H7 at Walmart, and discovered that I really need a D1S, 8^) Personally, I'd avoid buying headlamp bulbs on Ebay. Click on the vendor name, and their location is either China or they say something ambiguous like "headquartered in the UK." Why are their prices so much cheaper, like roughly half? Because the bulbs are counterfeit -- not really the Philips or Sylvania brands they appear to be.

Thanks for the video! Saved me a ton of money. The dealer quoted over $400 and suggested we run diagnostics for $135 to make sure there is nothing else wrong with the system. What a rip off! I paid $15 us for a new bulb.

No, dipped headlight. However same process to remove and change. Just remove headlight and pull out blown bulb, so you can make sure you buy the right replacement.

Thanks for the comment, I had read that there should be four bolts, as you said the fourth should be quite easy to locate under the air intake, which you can remove with by unscrewing the two phillips head screws just above the radiator. My car is an Ultrasport, so I suspect this is why it only has 3 (as does the Cabriolet).

My wife has kept her Audi garaged since we got it, so perhaps that makes a difference. I guess weather conditions are a bit more extreme in Canada than here in the Midwest in anycase. Thanks for watching and taking the time to share ... I know where you're coming from with the car being a pain in the ass to repair, but I usually feel pretty good after being able to SO OFTEN, like its gratifying that the car forces me to work on it all the time...

Yep, I just had my other side bulb go out myself. I didn't swap out both bulbs last time and I should have, as when one goes the other will follow in shortly after (for me a year but still). Remember to pick up a T30 Torx if you dont have one. You can pick up a set for $7 in walmart, or a T-30 screwdriver for $5 in autozone. Good luck...

This was so helpful thanks! i did everything right and then discovered i dont use H7s on my Avant i use D1S Hid bulbs, i was very upset when i figured out i bought the wrong bulbs and just to make it better these D1S bulbs were like 130 bucks a piece Thank You Audi!

H7 55W Halogen. I just picked up a pair from xenonhidshop on ebay for $4 shipped, the shipping was quick like 4 days from ca to mo, so pretty quick. If you pick out your bulb get 4000-5000k as that is the whitest light. 6000k+ gets blue and less visible, and below 4k similarly yellow. Also, you should open up your headlight and check out the bulb, to make sure. Also it doesnt hurt to swap bulbs, to make sure htats the problem, and not balast (if you have it.) ...but at $4 just order a couple now

In my case H7 55W Xenon 5000k. You can find a pair on ebay for $5.99 that work fine search for "H7 55W Xenon HID Hyper White" those are the cheapest for north america and they come pretty fast from California. But, check your owner manual for what type of bulb you should get. Commonly, HID-D2S or HID-D1S bulbs are used for the factory HID upgrade. If you're not the original owner, you will have to pull the headlight unit out to check before you purchase. If you find you have the H7 then ....
@carlfxy11 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, and watching, AUDI A4 B6's came with H7 high and low beam bulbs as standard. A factory HID dipped beam option, was available though. In this case you may find either D1S or D2S bulbs. If you look at you log book codes you will see a code for that option, unless an owner before you did the HID upgrade themselves. In anycase, my car (which is a USP) uses H7 bulbs, for both Full and dipped beams, and in this case I was changing the dipped beam light bulb.
@carlfxy11 жыл бұрын
...cont.... you could just take the high beam bulb out and put it in the dipped, until your new bulbs arrive. Hope this helps.
@carlfxy11 жыл бұрын
4k-5k is where you want to be, so you would be fine with those 4k bulbs, above or below that color temperature you lose lumens (output) so you wont see as much. They just use a bit of blue glass I think to make them look xenon like. Now if you have a bulb out, just pick up a hid kit and throw it in if that's the way you want to go, I haven't done it so Im pretty much in the same boat as you when it comes to bulbs and color. I think you can pick up a kit for around $50-$70 for each dip/full/fog

My bulb was completely out, in fact my drivers side has just gone out also. I never experienced intermittent loss of headlight. Are you sure you don't have Xenon's and the ballast is failing ? To debug without dealer fee's try swapping drivers and passenger side kit (bulbs / ballast) to see if the problem switches sides. Good luck

oh to show you how 'expert' I am ...I just fathomed, that when they say xenon with the H7 bulbs ... they mean xenon look ... lol. You only get xenon gas in the hid bulbs. I never bothered with HID upgrade, as I was bothered with ballast, you know just another thing to go wrong, and I don't want to stun the deer around here, anymore than I have to ;)

Considering the cost of the D2s and D1s Bulbs I'd suggest anyone checking before ordering, and if they find they have the standard they could just replace the failed dipped bulb with the less frequently used Full beam, whilst they wait for their el cheapo ebay bulbs :)

Wait until your coolant flange goes at the back of the engine, a garage will charge you $500+ to change it when with effort and girly small arms you can get it done for $40 !! Had to watch this because today, I've got some chancer complaining that I fitted a headlight bulb to his A4 back in February, and that I've broke his wheelarch liner. I don't remember the car at all, but this shows that the job is done from up top, and I wouldn't have needed to touch the liner, it's not a Renault.
