I heard it was a good idea to vaccum the power steering pump after installation. refill the reservoir and place vaccum fitting where the cap goes . and using a hand vacuum pump that is also used to bleed brakes.

I have an 07 CRV as well. @1:11 I'm noticing you have the same pump as mine. The cover you're removing only covers the bottom hole? Is there fluid always coming out of the top hole, or does air come out? I can't figure out why both holes aren't covered? I was confused taking the hose off today, to replace the o-ring, wondering if it was put on wrong?

I appreciate the video man, I just changed my 2007 crv pump this morning with an OEM reman unit. Wrestled the belt on and off from the top haha. Did you have to bleed air out of yours after installation?
@jakesterphillips8904 Жыл бұрын
Depends on how much fluid you lost, when you refill and start the car the fluid level will drop and you turn the wheel from left to right until it stays level.
@BottomOutGarage4 жыл бұрын
Did you use an oem pump? ive gone through 3 amazon power steering pumps on my moms 2011 crv and they all whine
@miragemechanical45904 жыл бұрын
These pumps are prone to whining if there is any air at all in the system. I had the pump replaced by the dealer when the car was 2 years old and took it back because it whined. They bled the air out and refilled the reservoir and that was that. Same goes for this one. If it whines, be sure the reservoir is topped off and then turn the steering wheel lock to lock several times. The whine should eventually go away.

At 6:35 why did you replace the new hose connection with the old one? Wouldnt the new one have a better o-ring seal?
@miragemechanical45904 жыл бұрын
The pump is used on several Honda/Acura models, and the angle of the hose connection varies between the different models. The one that was included with the new pump was different from the CRV i was working on. I did put a new O ring on the connector i reused, though. I edited that part out, but if you watch close, there's a quick shot of the old fitting shown with a green O ring. Great Question!

Helpful hints: No need to take wheel off, everything can be done from the top. Remove reservoir first and set it out of the way (small bungee helps). After getting the serpentine belt off of the PS pump, us a bungee or similar to hold it out of the way and keep it on the other pulleys. The off set wrench to take the tension off of the belt is great, and requires a cheater bar as shown. A hydraulic jack handle from a floor jack works great. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, don't ever, ever stick your finger in the hole of the pulley to hold it still for the impact wrench to tighten the nut. Well, unless you want to break or shorten a finger. USE a SCREWDRIVER or similar. Those seals on the pipe nipples should be replaced, order the PS pump that includes them. The air needs to be bled out of the system.

Video will help when I change mine.. thank you. What brand replacement PSP is holding up over time? Other than OEM new ($1k) or Reman (over $550 from Honda,) I haven’t read many positive comments regarding parts store (AA, Napa, etc.) or online (Rock Auto, Amazon, etc.) replacements. ????? Thanks again

I think I got this one from AutoZone. Prices are up from what I remember, but even at $180, you could do this job 5 times and still be in it for less than one OEM pump.

Super informative with easy to understand instructions. Once the power steering pump is removed are you able to remove the alternator as well? Is it easy to access once the PS pump is out of the way? My power steering pump is leaking all over the alternator and I want to change both. Thanks for any feedback!

I didn't try to remove the alternator, but it makes sense that it would be much easier to remove with the PS pump out of the way.

Yes i have the same problem, power steering fluid all over the alternator, but to remove alternator you will need to take out steering pump, t bar in the front and unattatch all cords, pull put aside radiator container then youll a have a bit of room to unscrew and wiggle out

I dont know how deep it may be, but if you can manage to find a new short bolt and thread it in on whatever threads are exposed, it might just hold it in place. Or cut a long bolt to size and clean the thread good so there are no burrs. Maybe this will help.

After replacing mine, the belt keeps jumping off a bit on the ps pump pulley. Why could this be?

angelisone replaced the tensioner and that fixed it
@angelisone4 жыл бұрын
@@NRXTM The tensioner usually won't throw the belt out. But did you check the tensioner out when you got it out. If the tensioner not put correctly or spring is weak, then belt will come out very fast. That is why I suggests to hand crank the Crankshaft. If tensioner or any is off the belt will climb out of track/grove. I hope you & many other clean out the Reservoir Tank, replace two hoses & O-ring. And flush the power steering fluid out completely.

If you lift the reservoir out of the bracket, you can tilt it so that the hoses are pointing 'up'. If you remove the hoses in this position, you should be able to get the reservoir out with minimal spillage. I'd put a couple of rags under it just to catch anything that does spill out. Unless the internals of your old pump came apart during operation, you can leave the fluid in the lines and just swap out the pump.

@@marianatequiero28 The tensioner can be done on this vintage with a tool from O'Reilly (that is where I got the one we used.) The fairing near the grille, on top, has to come off and you have to pull the tool toward the center of the grille to get enough throw. The O'Reilly tensioner comes with a 14mm six point 3/8 drive socket, but a 12 point would give a better chance of getting the throw you need. Another video shows a mickey-mouse using a 12 point combo wrench and a 1/2 inch drive ratchet, but if the joint is bumped it could cause horrible damage to your hand. I had a much less intense bruise to a knuckle and it was more than a year before I could put my hand in my pocket. It could easily require amputation of a finger to relieve the nightmarish pain.
