Thanks so much for posting this. I would never have figured out how to replace the boot seal on my own, but with your video I got it done in a little over an hour. The spring clamps were the hardest part of the operation, but with a little elbow grease and a lot of cussing, I finally got them on. Thanks again!

Thank you for the great instructions. I wanted to add a comment for those who may have the same problem I had. All went well until it was time to put the rings with springs back on. I had bought the spring expansion tool on Amazon for $10, however the tips on the tool were too thick to fit into the ends of the spring on the inner ring. I spent over 3 hours on KZbin trying everyone else's tricks with zip ties, etc. but nothing worked. I even tried using zip ties to make larger rings, but that didn't work either. (See below as to why.) I finally called a repair parts place in town to see if they had another tool, and the guy suggested grinding the tips! (OMG! Brilliant!) Luckily we have a belt grinder! I then had it installed in 15 minutes! The other problem, that I don't understand, is when the spring is stretched as far as this tool will stretch it, it is still JUST barely big enough, and you still have to muscle the band on. (Why can't they make the tool so it will stretch the spring with a little extra room to spare?? The tool worked fine on the second/outer ring because the rings at the ends of that spring were larger. The tool is a great concept that eventually worked, but they could be fantastic with just a few tweaks! Oh, and I have banned my husband from using fabric softener after doing all this! (My drain pumped had died and I was replacing it when I decided to change out the seal at the same time.)

I found there to be issues with the spring tool I purchased as well. I actually bought two different ones with different sized tips and different opening widths. Only $11 and $13 or so. I feel it’s always a plus when doing a job like this myself to end up with tools I didn’t have before. In fact I think it should be considered reasonable to spend the amount on tools that was saved by doing the job myself. 😊

@@TheEtherealPancake Sounds like the harder part is getting the rings back on. Was that also easy with the water pump pliers? I am debating which tool to get.

My trick for getting the spring clamps on without the special tool was to use a zip tie. Loop it in the end of the spring and the you have some big loops to pull on. Once snapped in to place, clip the zip ties and remove. Great video. Watched all the way through once. The. Watched and paused for each step. Total of 30 to 45 min.

Great tip. I put one zip tie in the "bottom" hole of the spring and another in the hole an inch or so away from the end of the bent clasp. Using my left hand on the zip tie on the bent clasp side and my right hand on the zip tie on the spring, I was able to get the clasp in place by just pulling my hands away from each other. A small rotation of my right hand allowed the spring head to rotate to the correct angle to get the clasp to land. It took some sweat, but beats buying an $80 tool.

Thank you, thank you . . . thank you. Could not get a repair person out to fix our LG front loader, leeked and wouldn't drain. I was totally intimidated with the thought of doing it myself. BUT after watching this video, I gave it a go, paid the extra for overnight shipping of the gasket and it worked, at least the leak - still wouldn't drain. BUT by watching another of your videos, pulled the drain pump (took lots of pictures) and cleaned some clogged hoses, and blew out everything else. Put it together and still didn't train, but no leeks. Ordered the drain pump, again overnight, and just finished putting it in. We are up and running. Thank you. This isn't my favorite thing to do, but without your videos, I would have been at the mercy of Sears - ugh.

Excellent “how to” video. Start to finish was perfect. The seal ring tool was fine for the external ring and removal of the internal ring but wasn’t much use for installation of the internal ring. I got it close using the zip-tie idea mentioned in a previous comment but finished with needle nose pliers and mussel. Also, I applied soap to the tongue on the washer rather than the seal groove hoping to reduce a slippery mess while handling the seal. Don’t know if it made a difference but it worked fine and there was no mess. Again excellent tutorial. My wife was ready to replace the washer because of the stained smelly seal. So this saved us significant $$. Thanks

I just replaced the door boot seal on our LG thanks to the information in this video. If you can afford the spring-removal tool then it might save you some time and cussing. The front spring-wire clamp is easy to get off and re-install, but the inside spring-wire clamp is a "mo-fo" to reinstall. It comes off easily enough, but it was difficult to re-install without the special tool. I had to enlist the help of my wife, and we used tie wraps around the spring ends to expand the spring. Also, I purposely stretched the spring while it was off to allow us to more smoothly pull it apart. That inner-spring is a strong one. But everything is fine now and no more odor. YAY!!!

You guys rock Your videos are the best, they go straight to the point, they are very easy to understand and you all don't waste any time with useless explanations, I was able to fix my dryer and my washer by following the easy instructions on your videos. I changed all 4 drum rollers , the dryer belt and the motor idle pulley. The step by step videos were just awesome. Thank you repair clinic. However, do insist that people get the spring expander tool for changing the door boot seal on the washer because I didn't and I wasn't able to install the boot seal, once I got the tool, then I was able to do it. Thanks again.

Oh my--this is a great instructional video, but there are far more steps involved than I assumed! Glad I didn't just start yanking on my seal. I take good care of my washer (leave door open to dry after use and wipe out the seal regularly), but despite my efforts, my many years old (10?) washer's seal's interior lip was brown and dirty. Did the best I could to clean and wipe it, but after half an hour, I decided that was enough. Thought replacing the seal would be a quick job. My washer and dryer are in a very tight upstairs room and housed under a countertop. It's very tough to pull it out and work on it. I cringe at the thought of when it dies an another needs to be taken upstairs to swap it or a full new W/D set. I think after watching, though, I'll just wait until it's near death. I'd hate to go to this much trouble or pay to have it done only for the machine to die shortly after changing the seal. Good luck to those who can tackle this DIY project!

I followed these step by step instructions and replaced the boot seal on my LG washer machine. This is not a hard procedure thanks to these instructions. I will tell you that if you don't have the spring removal tool (as I did not), it is a tad bit harder. You will need two people for that step. I actually used the ends of a bungee cord and pulled the spring apart while my wife fit the spring in to place. Also, this washer doesn't have a drum light, yet the boot seal has a place for it. If you have a drum light, make sure to have an extra zip tie. If yours is like mine they cut the end off so it can't be reused. Last word of advice...when putting soap on the seal, you only need to put a little. Just enough so there is less friction when putting the seal in place. Thanks RepairClinic for this video. I'm sure it saved me a few hundred bucks.

This was a fantastic video and very helpful. We have an LG WM8000HVA and the door seal had become completely covered in mold. I bleached the heck out of it but this mold was in the rubber. Our laundry had started to smell. I finally decided to do something about it. There were a few differences in my project. I found it easier to disconnect the door latch plug after removing the front panel. Likewise, I plugged it back in while re-installing the front panel. Our model had two screws in the filter housing box which I could only see by getting real low to the floor. Our model had only one hose at the top and the second orange plug was stubbed off and secured with a hose clamp. I followed the video as if it were just two hoses. I also have an LED light that needed to be pushed back through the rubber seal and secured with a zip tie. I also had water hoses on the left and right sides. The procedure is the same as the other tubes. Just remove the hose clamps and keep them for later. The hardest part about the whole project is that inner spring. I did buy the special tool but it was still a pain. The spring was too short to insert the tool at both ends. Eventually I took the spring clamp assembly apart and used the separator tool to put the spring back onto the band. The whole project took 90 minutes. I am sure I saved money and now that I know these HE washers are prone to mold in the seal I will have the tools and education to do this project again. Thanks Repair Clinic, this is a service to humanity!

Awesome video. Hardest part was clamping the inner seal after putting in the new boot seal. Liquid detergent was an excellent idea, else I'm not sure I could have gotten the boot seal in place. I used zip ties for the spring clamp. Definitely better than nothing, but the inner seal was super tight. I removed the weight under the drum to give me more space to maneuver. I'm guessing it would have been easier with the tool, but hardly easy since I'm not sure the tool expands it enough to fully slip over the outer bump. I spent extra time cleaning various parts. The small drain hose connecting the boot to the drum was completely clogged. Anyway, it would have been (much) more frustrating and taken longer w/o this video so I'm glad I watched it (a few times before starting then watch/pause while doing the work). Note that if you need to remove the weight, you'll want a ratchet set. I think it was the 10mm bolt. Btw, my model was a WM2016CW. It looks a bit different from the one in the video, but instructions were spot-on.

Good tutorial. Unfortunately my boot seal was shipped with a crease in it. I must have pushed the seal onto the machine frame 50 times with a second set of hands to get it to stay on while getting the spring clamp engaged into the groove. I ran my hand inside the seal so many times my thumb is swollen, bleeding and blistered but I did succeed ! I had the spring expansion tool though not the oem one and while it helped I had to also use my vice grips to keep the spring expansion tool expanded while positioning the wire around the boot seal while I had someone else pushing against the seal near the crease to prevent it from pulling off. Of course I was doing the replacement in a confined space so the person was pushing with the end of a broom. I also made the wire loop that the spring expansion tool hooks into tighter as the tool slipped out a few times while doing this process. I also removed the black rubber drain hose from the machine and it was so crammed full of hair no water was pushing through - no wonder this thing went moldy !! I'll definitely hire out this repair next time !! I've repaired dozens of appliances, water fill valves, replaced control boards, drum rollers, etc. I think this was just almost impossible because of the state the new seal came in. If you get a seal that doesn't look like perfect circle and tends to fold in on itself I recommend you return it !

@@repairclinic Thank you for the reply! I did use a hair dryer for a bit maybe should have soaked it in hot water... it certainly wanted to fold in. The outer boot seal went on so easily even though the boot looked deformed before I stretched it around the door frame. One thing I didn't notice till I've been using it is the depression in the bottom of the boot seal that funnels water into the boot moat I guess I didn't perfectly align mine so the depression is slightly offset. Anyway no more smelly mold !

Very helpful video. I used two screwdrivers and a piece of 2x4 wood with a notch cut in at each end to substitute for the expensive and elusive spring spreading tool.

I'm a woman and I was easily able to follow this tutorial with no problems, AND I couldn't find anyone local that had the part in stock. Sears could order it for me but it would have cost me more than $20 more than I could get it from this guys site. So I ordered it and paid overnight shipping and it still cost me less than if I had ordered it local or through Sears! Wonderful tutorial and wonderful web store. Thank you!

This tutorial to replace the boot was absolutely spot on. I don't have the exactly model as this particular LG but it's an LG and I was able to replace the boot within an hour. THE ONLY PROBLEM.... If you don't have the spring clamp to put the wires back around the boot to seal it... You'll be scrambling a way to stretch the springs. Figuring that out took awhile but that was the only hang-up. If you have the tool shown, you'll be able to replace the boot within an hour or less. Absolutely perfect video tutorial! Thanks.

The drain on the front seal (6 o’clock position forward of the three drain passages) was clogged with a small LEGO piece. The LEGO was not visible without disconnecting the drain tube. Saved me from changing out the seal. Video helped with figuring access to the front drain.

Thank you for your excellent demonstration, expert. Have one of those with a damaged seal. Been putting it off like for ages; however after seeing your step by step "this is how", I'm gonna tackle it myself and save some dough. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for this wonderful video, the clear instructions made it very easy to get the job done without needing a Handyman. I did buy that special spring-tool, and very glad I did, as I found my spring to be somewhat rusted and very tight, the tool made it very easy. Overall about 4 hours work, as I had to also take extra time to clean out the tubes and drum while at it .

Today a young man was at my house who said he invented, and I watched, a way to change the rubber of the washer quickly and practically. I would like to keep this registered, so that if necessary, lg will look for you, as I know the difficulty of carrying out this type of repair. It didn't take more than 20 minutes! Fantastic!

Good write up. for the spring clips I forked out a whopping £0.24 for a 120mm M6 bolt, two eye screws and 3 nuts to make my own spring expander. a bit cheaper than the LG tool and worked perfectly

The video explains everything correctly and clearly. But it fails to communicate what a *itch it actually is to do 😂. Especially if you have to remove the dryer from on top of it first. The spring expander would’ve come in super handy, highly recommend you get one for this job.

Ordered my part from Repair Clinic.com, received it in a couple of days at a great price and in perfect condition. Watched the video above Tried to save some additional money by skipping the spring release tool. The key is to make sure the spring and wire are lubed up really well with dishwashing soap. Then just use some elbow grease and a little luck and you can get them back on. Took about 1 hour but saved a couple of hundred dollars. Thanks repair clinic!

Spot on video, thanks guys. Wish my local shop had the spring tool! Made do with some long handled needle nose pliers, hooking one side around the seal and leveraging against my thigh to stretch the spring around the other side. Still a PITA, but got the job done! (wish I would have read the zip tie trick ahead of time!) I will definitely take a look at your cleaner, we were not diligent enough and the seal got incredibly disgusting after 7 years of use, embarrassingly so! New seal, new start!

Great video! These videos are incredibly helpful. I think you skipped reconnecting the electrical harnesses for the door and the control panel, though. But, those are probably hard for people to overlook when putting their machines back together.
