Great video - thanks. I may be the only one who had this problem, but after pulling off the gasket (and waiting a few days for the replacement), I completely forgot where the rear seal attached to. In retrospect (and now having sucessfully installed it), it's easy to see in your video where it goes. But having lost about 4 hours messing with it I thought I'd comment just in case someone has the same problem. There's a big round yellowish plastic ring that sits just outside the drum. The gasket PUSHES UNTO this ring, so that the gasket covers the ring on both sides. Thats why the author "lubed" the seal with detergent, as it makes it easier to slide the gasket unto the the ring. I actually called 3 appliance repair places to finish the job for me, but after hearing their prices I just slogged on and I'm glad I did. Again, great video. By the way, cleaning that drain hole was probably 99% of my issue. That thing was plugged about 70% and my washer has been dripping for at least a year.

As soon as I saw this, I knew you were a pro. I was able to easily change out my moldy seal this way and considering my dryer is stacked on top, this saved me a lot of time. I was thinking it could be done this way but all the other waterheads posting videos take the front off. I mean, sure, it might be easier to get the inner clamp back on but I really did not want to take my dryer down. So glad I found your video and you confirmed that this is THE way to do it. My only regret is that I had the cheap $12 pliers for the clamps and besides the fact that they open when you squeeze them and are not bent like yours, the tips were way to big to be of any use. I ended up using a tire valve core remover to leverage the spring back on the inside clamp, sort of like using a drum brake spring tool( I'm a car mechanic).

thanks for the helpful video. while replacing my gasket i was reinstalling the bottom weight and must have hit that nipple for the gasket drain. this left a hole in the outer tank where it broke off flush with the outer body. I found an automotive bolt about the right size and got it to cut its own new threads in the plastic. I then backed it out and cut it short so it wouldn't come in contact with the inner drum, which I could see was behind it. I coated the bolt with aquarium silicone sealant and installed it snugly (in a bed of silicone). Even if this works in the short time, is there a better way of plugging a hole in the outer drum? It's that very hard tan plastic.
@Synchrimedia11 ай бұрын
btw, i had to block the gasket drain for now. i figure we can wipe out anything leftover, but most of it should spill back into the drum as there is a path to it in the rubber gasket. Since I don't have a good way to feed it back into the outer drum, i may just run the tube to my overflow drain. Or is there some way of tapping it back into the outer drum? i don't think i have the option to replace the hole drum.
@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance11 ай бұрын
Yep, You shouldn’t need that outer drain so just plugging it is good. Those drains usually fill up with crud anyway.
@Synchrimedia11 ай бұрын
@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance you're right. mine was plugged completely so i didn't think it would make much difference, especially since there are holes in the rubber that allow any water collected there to drain into the drum. Wife has been using it for a few days now and no leaks, so I guess the bolt I used to block the hole in the outer drum is working. if it starts to leak at some point I guess I can try some JB Water Weld that I just learned about too.

Just finished with mine with this video's help. My thumbs! that last part was a doozie. I had to muster up the courage to press on through the pain. I was thinking: "My family needs this washer to work!" and "I mustn't fail!" Ouch! Thanks for this video. Made it super easy to jump into. Unfortunately for me, that tool I ordered came with the forks too far apart and I couldn't close the spring to the hook for the inside ring. I had to bend the tools forks together more with my vice. Got them to go from 5CM apart when closed to 2cm. That did the trick.

I the soap method along with a plastic bike tire lever to get the spring retaining wire on. Could not do it with thumbs alone. I used my left knee to hold the bottom left of the spring in and then worked the tire iron around the right side and down (and out) to stretch over the edge. Took 5 seconds that way but struggled for 25 minutes trying it without any tools.
@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance3 жыл бұрын
Wow, Very impressive . Pretty hard to do without that spring tool.
@mikeclarke96053 жыл бұрын
Plastic bike tire lever was a great idea - I used two (with no soap) on both the inner and outer spring to get them back on, no LG tool needed. Could have probably used them to get the springs off as well. For me the most work was getting the groove over the plastic hub all the way around (there I did use soap, as shown in the video) - after many failures it got easier (maybe the gasket got slightly stretched/looser with the repeated effort). Also reattaching the four hoses around the perimeter was not easy with the tight space, but by pulling out the hard plastic hose connector and attaching to the gasket side first (and clamping), hose side second, I eventually got them all on. A small pair of needle nose vice grips was useful for holding a hose clamp "open" around the hose while making the connection, then sliding it over and removing the vice grips to close the clamp in place.
@p1racingsimulators2 жыл бұрын
I used 2 spring clamps to hold the rubber in place while using plastic tire irons. The spring ring kept slipping off at first or slipping behind the rubber piece. Good tip though ! That tool sucks lol

Great idea. However (on my machine) there is a sensor and two more small hose connectors at the 12-o'clock position of the gasket. Would those be problematic without removing the front cover?

Hi Pierre, Great question. You can still remove the gasket without taking off the front cover. You just need to disconnect those tubes and the light at the 12 o’clock position and even though it’s cramped there is enough room to do it.

The hook on the tool was facing the wrong way and it kept slipping off. So I had to suck it up and force it in with my thumbs and just deal with the soreness for the rest of the day!
