Great upgrade, but did you thoroughly inspect inside that Canton reservoir???? Here's my recent experience of a potential Canton Catastrophe & unbelievable what I discovered by accident. My C4 has been in storage for 22yrs due to bad health & bad life.... My C4 only has 19k miles. I'm planning a methodical process to get it started but I wanted to be sure to pressurize the oil system & will spray pennetrant into each cylinder prior to even cranking by hand to protect the cylinder walls. So I researched many pre-oilers & even diy vids to make one from a garden sprayer which is very popular, but I decided on the "professional"? route & bought a Canton 24-162 Pre-Oiler that I bought directly from Canton at a discounted price. Basically, they just modify an old fire extinguisher tank to make it & even saw a diy vid doing the same from an old fire extinguisher..... After I got it, I decided to stick my finger in the bottom & feel the inner weld penetration on one of the welded fittings & felt it was gritty inside. Looked at my finger & there was tons of metallic aluminum shavings!!!!! I couldn't believe it. I rinsed out the tank into a bucket & there were tons of aluminum flakes & shavings! About a tablespoon full...! Whoever built this, didn't rinse out the tank during fab work. I wrote to Canton with photos to tell them to check their inventory. Their response was nonchalant thanking me for the heads up. This thing would've destroyed my motor pumping tons of metallic shavings into my engine defeating the purpose for a dry start up, but one with metallic shavings. I can only wonder how many others this happen to & never knew why they had a destroyed motor after a rebuild since this is when a pre-oiler is typically used for after a rebuild...... I can only wonder who is making these things for Canton & bad quality control or maybe a disgruntled employee!

Damn Chris, I am sorry that happen to you and good catch. I blew my tank out with air and it blew out clean. Of course, my tank appears to be made out of raw aluminum. Normally, I blow things out and if anything comes out, I go ahead and give it a thorough clean. I hope you’re in a good space with your health now so you can go out and enjoy that low mile jewel. I for one know about the health issues that come along in life. Stay strong my man. ☮
