Removing the spare tire makes it a little easier to work under there. Also, this gives you a chance to check the air pressure in your spare since it's probably been at least 10 years since you checked it.

Are those torque specs also accurate for the 1996-2004 R50 Pathfinder?

Nissan Xterra/Pathfinder rear shock absorbers: The torque specs given apply to the Xterra (and Frontier). The specs for the Pathfinder are a little different: Upper mounting nut/bolt 1996 and 1997 - 36 to 49 ft-lbs 1998 - 43 to 58 1999 and later - 49 to 65 Lower mounting nut/bolt 1996 through 2000 - 49 to 65 2001 and later - 44 to 57
