Good video…one thing to add that is very important…right after you get the intake off…first thing…take duct tape and cover up the intake manifold so nothing can fall in there. If you drop something in there it can be a disaster.

Good Video! I also replace the PCV valve (p.s. side front of front valve cover). It has a couple of O-Rings that will eventually leak by over time. Had oil leaking down onto the alternator. Having ripped a plug tube seal before, I swipe a little oil on the tube seal before I fit the cover back down.

Revved Up Knowledge I actually have a question! (Didn’t think you’d reply...) I replaced my valve cover gasket on my 2006 Honda Accord ExLV6 (191k). Shortly after, the check engine light came on, smelled burning oil, I checked everything to make sure it was tight as I went along. The only thing I feel like I could have done wrong, was when I was putting the valve cover back on, instead of letting the spark plugs rest up against the new seals, I used a flathead right carefully stretch the seal to where it sealed on the outside of the end of the tube. (Almost like a condom)(sorry i didn’t know what else to compare it too). I know your supposed to let it just rest against it, but I was worried it wasn’t gonna seal even when I tightened it down. Long story short, I had the engine lights tested and it came back as 2 HO2 sensors, and evap chamber. Three days prior, I had the catalytic converter checked and one of the sensors replaced. The codes had cleared, no lights, they said it was running fine. I did disconnect the battery terminal throughout the procedure. What could cause a sudden trip of the sensors, could it be the smoke from the burning oil?
@RevvedUpKnowledge
@RevvedUpKnowledge 4 жыл бұрын
Lol I try my best to reply! 😁 where is the oil dripping down? I don’t think it’s your spark plug seal area since it’ll just be a puddle of oil inside the spark plug tube and not burning oil. As for the check light if it hasn’t come back on since it got cleared you should be okay. Maybe you cycled the ignition when some things were disconnected? I would be more concerned if the light came right back on after the clearing.

Can you do the front gasket without removing the intake?
@RevvedUpKnowledge

Great question. Some of the models(mainly the suv v6s) has a intake plenum spacer that allows enough room to do so without taking the manifold off. Most cars that came with the V6s didn’t have the spacer

Wait so how did u get those 10mm bolts to come out (from the valve cover)? The rubber grommets on the bolt's lower half with the ridges seem to not allow for pulling them "all the way out" prior to lifting the valve cover up...what's the secret?

I’m more than likely too late on this question but to answer it I use a wire cutter to snip off the rubber grommet then slip on the new one.

Good video. I'm smelling some oil when I pull it into the garage. I replaced the front valve cover gasket about a year and a half ago but I didn't have to take the intake manifold off. I'm assuming I have to take the intake off to get to the back one right?
@RevvedUpKnowledge
@RevvedUpKnowledge 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For the back some V6 models have a intake plenum stack/spacer that creates enough room for the covers to be taken off. I believe in your case you probably don’t have to take the intake manifold plenum off either to take off the rear cover. I would visually check for clearances and if it looks about the same as the front cover I would go ahead and remove the cover first before taking the manifold off. If it comes off then you saved a good chunk of time!

Check on the rear cam caps. One on each cylinder head. The one probably leaking a lot is the one right behind the EGR valve on the front cylinder head. It’s an o-ring on each one and is fairly cheap at the dealer and pretty simple to change. Hope this helps! Good luck ✊🏼

Do you have to replace the intake gaskets when you do this job? A mechanic said he has to do it as a result of the valve cover gasket replacement.
@RevvedUpKnowledge
@RevvedUpKnowledge 4 жыл бұрын
It is always recommended to but usually if the plenum gasket is metal I will reuse them. Never had a problem. If it was on the intake manifold (where the intake manifold meets the cylinder head) I would replace it. In this case it’s just the plenum gasket and usually(OEM) are metal ply gaskets. It’s not that much extra but sometimes you gotta save where you can! 😆

@@RevvedUpKnowledge yea I mean mine is 1999 V6 Honda Accord so its probably the gen before this one, that is, it is the 6th gen. Still not sure if I need to buy the gasket, money isn't the issue tho - just trying to make sure I don't f up on buying the right parts. The other mechanics didn't mention this to me tho so that's why it was confusing. I like this guy's price on the labor but want to make sure I make it easy on him and get the right parts and also don't over buy with the wrong or unnecessary parts.
