Valve Cover Gasket Replacement Honda Accord Acura TL V6

In this video I replace the front and rear valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals on a 2006 Acura TL. The valve cover gaskets were leaking oil. This video also applies to the Honda Accord and most Honda and Acura’s with the V6 engine.

Excellent vid, I've got a 2000 Acura 3.2TL that has an excess amount of oil in the Pellem, do you think it's the same gaskets leaking, no oil is visible on the outside of valves or manifold.

I picked up one of these cars and was intimidated by it. After watching your videos, I'm actually looking forward to doing some work on it. But is the torque wrench a must or kind of a luxury for this job?

I've worked on my TL for a couple of years now and it really isn't as intimidating as you might think. Not very intense to work on the TL but do expect to take a couple of hours if it's your first time. I guess you could always consider torque wrenches to be a luxurious option but it's a worthwhile tool to invest in. You don't want to under-torque the valve covers or intake plenum and you definitely don't want to over-torque them either. I would recommend getting one if you plan on working on your car in the future. That being said, 8~16 lb-ft. of torque isn't too high so you might be able to get away with using a standard wrench but I wouldn't recommend it for this job. These bolts are so tiny that too much torque and you'll snap the bolt halfway in.

Mary Reed I wouldn’t consider it a must because the job can still be completed without one however to do any job with certainty & confidence you will need one. Without it fasteners are likely to be broken, stripped, over tightened or under tightened all of which may lead to fluid leaks or other consequential damage.

This very same gasket caused a leak on my ‘05 TL, and it soaked the exhaust manifold with oil. Is that bad for the manifold? Can I just clean it off and forget about it after replacing the gasket? Thanks!

Frank Leone you’ll want to clean off all of the residual oil the leak left behind. Most will burn off however in severe circumstances it may lead to combustion. Thank you for watching!

If they're in need of replacement this would be a good time to replace the spark plugs since you already are removing the coils!

Why don't any of these videos discussing replacing Honda valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals actually SHOW THE PROCEDURE OF REMOVING THE OLD SPARK PLUG TUBE SEALS They are typically rock hard and fused to the valve cover, I would LOVE for just ONE of these videos to actually SHOW THE PROCEDURE for getting them out. Not "describe" it in a voice over, actually SHOW it. My guess is that this guy actually went and grabbed a whole other valve cover from the salvage yard with better condition tube seals, since they are virtually impossible to get out, then just did a commentary on "I have the new spark plug tube seals in."
