This is the best tutorial I found for replacing torsion springs. I appreciated all the attention to detail on safety, and how clearly the steps were laid out. I was able to replace springs in about an hour following this guide. Thanks!

Great video! Thank you for explaining each step thoroughly. How often should springs be replaced?
@AmplifyDIY7 күн бұрын
Thank you! Generally they will last for many years - but it totally depends on how heavily the door is used. I generally only replace them when they break. Remember though, if your door has 2 springs and only 1 breaks - replace them both. Thanks for watching!

It appeared that the winding cone on the broken spring was marked red. However, it was installed on the right side of the torsion assembly. I just want to make sure I understand the location correctly. Thanks.

When not sure, such as this case, you want to determine the wind of the spring versus the location. You can easily match the wind on our product page when ordering! Just select the wind (Right-Wound or Left-Wound) and match the photo to your current spring. You will notice the direction the cut coil is facing when looking at the spring from above. This will be your "wind".

Yes, you understand correctly: Colors of cones can be unreliable as different manufacturers and distributors mark cones differently. Always double-check what you are ordering when you order.

Always check your door for level prior to winding the new spring(s).

How do we wind one with two torsion springs
@AmplifyDIYАй бұрын
Hi Rick - when you have 2 torsion springs, you wind *both* sides exactly as I showed in this video. Set up both sides to the point that you are ready to wind, then wind one side at a time. The same rule of thumb applies: 1 full turn for each foot of door height, or 1/4 turn for each 3" of door height. So, on a 7 foot tall door, you'd wind *both* springs with around 28-30 1/4 turns. Hopefully that makes sense - let me know if I can answer any other questions. Good luck!

I love DIY vids but as versatile as I am, the cost of this job (just had it done for 4h) is not worth the risks.

just for clarification, your door Torsion spring is installed on the LEFT side of the door correct?
@AmplifyDIYАй бұрын
For the installation I featured in this video, when standing inside the garage looking out towards the front of the house, the spring is installed on the *right hand* side of the door. This may not be the same for *your* door, though.

Considering how dangerous this is from what i hear. No thanks. I'll pay a pro to do it.

With the proper tools and technique, the danger is minimized a lot…but it’s always a good idea to call a pro if you are concerned. Thanks for watching!
