Perfectly sums up what happens. Use local tradesmen who know their job and use quality products. I installed a Zappi, with the goal to install solar some time, and upgraded my garage consumer unit at the same time. No deal offer would have looked at the bigger picture. Knowing what I bought the Zappi for, and what the car dealer’s price to have a charge point installed, there no way they could even come close to what it cost for me to do it.

Another wonderfully professional job Adam - with a well explained video too. Viewers... If you're in Hampshire, and need an EV charger I can recommend Adam (SOTA) very highly. As you can see in the video, Adam knows his stuff, in detail, and does a very effective and clean install. 👍

If the consumer unit is just the other side of the wall, can the fixed cable from the ohme go directly into that or does it need a junction box?

Can see chargers being used like car mats. Something to sweeten the deal but unlike car mats get it wrong and it’s drastic.

Great videos mate. Do you notify every charger to the DNO? I was installing charge points last year and used EV Comply which was a right faf and put me off installing them! I get they need notifying, EIC, building regs but unsure easiest way to let the DNO know without using a middle man overcharging for something I could do myself. I got the EV Comply set up when I did the 2919 couple of years ago. Cheers mate

I had that company do an ev charger install for one of my properties.. They were cursing me cause I am an electrician, firstly they wanted to fit a consumer unit in the meter box, I told them they were not going to do that but they could come off a spare way in the consumer unit, they told me they were not allowed to touch the consumer unit and didnt have the budget to do that, I said fair enough whipped out an mcb, moved around some breakers and cut down a bit of busbar and bobs your uncle spare way.. Then they said they didn't have to install an SPD, after confirming with NAPIT hotline as I am a member they threw their toys out of the pram and said I needed to pay for an SPD, I refused and said no the regs say you need one unless I say I don't want one, they tried to say thats ok then you can just say you don't want one, if you want one they will charge more, I was like no I will not say I don't want an SPD because I understand the risks. Eventually after I reported them to NICEIC they agreed to fit an SPD. Then I told them it was a looped supply, they had no idea and were not going to check, I told them they needed to report the install to Western Power. 9 months after the install they still had not reported to Western Power and eventually I had to report the install, they gave me the EIC but no buildings regs compliance certificate, they said I had to talk to the local council about that, I again reported them to NICEIC but thankfully they were like, we can see it here, whats your email address ill send it to you. Awful company, the problem is you cant compete on price unless you are willing to cut corners like they do.. Totally agree use a local electrician.

Lol great install. The tariff must be a super deal as changing the charger at i guess over £1200 with install . My question is how long will it be to break even on the saving. No differant to solar people talk down the oub avout how mych they save but when i ask the all important question . How much was your system, most people average £7k then i say cool so how long is your pay back . This confuses them . People nothing is free until your system returns your outlay first. Then its free

Nice install mate. 2 questions: Do you always use EV chargers with built in pen fault protection? And do all EV chargers have a load curtailment function? I’ve never seen you set up or talk about either……(Not to say you haven’t though lol)
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 11 ай бұрын
Hi mate, thank you, I usually use chargers with build in PEN fault protection, the only one I install that doesn’t is the Tesla charger, point taken, il include this in the next video, I try not to show how to set this up to stop DIY people giving it a go but I can certainly talk about it.

@@bigandyt I didn’t take it as criticism, sorry if it comes across that way, my personal advice is that if you can’t hide the junction box on the other side of the wall such as in a garage, then don’t get the Ohme, there is just too much going on as you say with cables everywhere, not nice on the eye at all.

The more us guys produce a high standard or work and show it on these platforms the more chance we have of improving the standards overall as general clients will see what’s acceptable and what’s not.
