Replacing beautiful King's pots with dull round ones .Mad.

Redundant chimney and can't easily cap the crown pots, customer preferred them in his garden with a plant pot in the top, where he can look at them. Seemed fair enough to me. I do what they want and get paid. 😄

Question, why did you put a gap between the base of the chimney pot and the chimney? Time line 4:50. Thanks.

The metal plate that holds the flue has clips on it that mean the pot won’t sit flat. I use a little piece of mortar to balance it level and then bedded mortar around to hold it. Metal plate visible at 4:43 I think. Usually pot would be flat but the plate meant I couldn’t do that. Thanks for your comment and watching.

Mad cowl I put on my Son's I had to raise a bit to give ventilation. It was a snug fit (for up to 300mm pot and pot was 300). He was starting to get faint damp spots on his bedroom chimney breast

It should have an approx 1 inch gap from the pot to allow ventilation which I think I did mention in the video. Or I mentioned that in the video on how to fit the cowl.

Just needed a coat of masonry protection cream on the crown and stack to make it 'proper bad weather proof' !

You never said on the capping cowl if you left a gap or was it pushed down flush with the pot.

Hi, you see the Americans leave an expansion gap around the pot, do roofers tend not to do that in the UK? I’m a DIY’er on mine tomorrow, so thank you for this video. 👍
@davesalter Жыл бұрын
Expansion gap is probably for a metal pot, we generally use clay pots and this isn’t done here. Local climate may also make a difference on that but in UK not an issue

Hi David do you add waterproofer to you mix 🤔
@davesalter2 жыл бұрын
No i generally just use a plasticiser, makes it more workable and does give more durability and frost proof protection. This and a well-mixed concrete is very waterproof.

Why do you say that out of interest? not like it, too loud? distracting?
