I had a FWD ‘06 Five Hundred with a CVT and it was tremendously solid. You could tell it was designed with fleet use in mind - everything was high capacity from the washer fluid to the engine oil. It had a good serviceable design and it was very comfortable to daily drive. I took a center punch from a Saturn to the driver’s door and wasn’t injured at all and had it repaired. I eventually sold it a few years later with 160k miles and it still had the original shocks, struts, tie rod ends and ball joints which is a miracle in western PA. Rock on, Five Hundred!

I have taken this car several times over the passes of the Sierra Mountains into Northern California from Nevada. My dad had a 2009 Taurus from 9000 miles through about 115,000 miles. The only mechanical maintenance he had to do to it were front brakes and all 4 shocks at 100,000 miles. It was an incredibly solid car. They do tend to rust on the rear wheel arches just behind the rear doors.

I did a little research on the Ford 500. It came with either a ZF Batavia CFT30 CVT or an Aisin F21 6 speed automatic, and came with either front wheel drive, or in the example in your video, all-wheel drive. The engine was a 3 liter Duratec 30 V6 engine.

I personally own an 07 Ford Five Hundred with 200k with the Aisin 6 speed transmission & I think it’s a great transmission. If I remember correctly, one of the features of the 500 was its height. They were very easy to get in and out of. Perhaps Ford was trying to sell this as a replacement for folks who were trading in their old Crown Vics. In New York City in the 80s and 90s, the Crown Vic was a great car to have, because it shared the drivetrain with the Lincoln Town Car. The Town Car was the number one private transportation vehicle in Manhattan. They were called “black cars“. In Brooklyn and Queens, there were 1 million repairs shops that specialized in Town Car repairs, so by default they were a million parts available for both models.

@VegaTron2020 Yeeesssa! I bought mine new in 2006 and it still runs and looks great. I've had no problems with the transmission or engine. Now, if you buy one somebody ran the hell out of, and didn't keep it serviced, that may be another issue. Should have had Scotty look at it first, lol.

I've had my 2007 500 (FWD) for about four years, and while a lot broke down over time it was only because everything inside it was the same parts as when the previous owners bought it in 2006. Amazing the car lasted until 2019 without any parts changed. Currently at 277,755 miles and still going strong! Comfortable, versatile, and it can get up and go when you need it to. It ain't a Supra, but it sure as Hell ain't no Prius Edit: before anyone says "they lied to you", I had some shops check it out. They found date marks on the engine, belt, battery, AC compressor and a few other parts that were inspected and confirmed legit. All mentioned but the engine have been replaced in the past year when they finally gave out (or in the compressor's case, exploded)

Update: she's dead. A few months ago, a deer ran out from behind a shed at top speed, maybe ten feet from me, while I was traveling at 70 MPH. She kept going strong for about a month, but after her brakeline ruptured and some other damage, I had to replace her with a 2013 Dodge Charger Pursuit. I went to start her up yesterday to make sure she was still kicking; won't even crank. The battery's probably dead. That's $250+ on top of $3,000+ to fix the body, headlight and windshield damage, plus the brakeline, plus the steering stuff and God knows what else-I'd spend less money just buying another Five Hundred. I'm gonna check around some scrapyards and see what they'll give me for her. If it's too low, I'm gonna sell her parts. Breaks my heart.

To the safety of this car, I was hit on the driver side at 50mph ,when I was turning into the hwy. And the air bags didn't have to deploy. The windows stayed intact as well. Felt like getting a good bump in a bumper car, although it did bend the frame the doors are still able to open and shut normally. The only other than the 500 I've been in an accident with is the Crown Victoria, and I'd say that the 500 feels safer.

I even pull a 4'x8' trailer with it. I do change the fluid in the transmission every 30,000 miles. My mother bought the car new and when she died I took the car over. With good maintenance these cars are amazing. The guy that made this video is right about the ride of it. It is very comfortable and the 6 speed automatic cars are pretty quick. I plan on keeping this one for a long time!

Hey Scotty - I just picked up a 2007 F-500 Limited AWD with the CVT with 27,000 original miles. Totally loaded. No dents, dings, rust or chips - it is nearly perfect and looks like it could have rolled off the show room floor. Yes it is slow on the uptake but it can roll along at 70 and make you feel like you're coasting but it more than makes up for lack of acceleration in comfort. I worried about the CVT, seeing how other car companies with CVT's seem to have lots of trouble but decided I'd give this one a chance since the total low miles and availability of the service record. The only thing I don't like is the sound system - I plan on replacing the OEM system with a more advanced double DIN screen version with phone integration features. Other than that I'm quite pleased with my granpa car.

Definitely. Mine is spectacular and just really practical and perfect in a lotta ways. I’ve been through a lot of used cars and Fords tend to be pretty damn tough and have longevity. Not all of them but all the ones I had.
