Saved my stupid ass. Thanks. I had changed blades before but this time something was wrong and I just couldn't figure out what. Yours is the only video I could find dealing with the single blade original Ego LM2100 model. I had to watch it a bunch of times before I picked up on that 5/8ths washer you kind of rushed over. Seems I somehow lost track of the washer which meant the bolt kept bottoming out making tightening the bolt impossible. As a pretty decent bicycle mechanic for over 30 years it took your video to finally help be make sense of my dilemma. Pretty sure the wife saw the washer on the grass and tossed it.

Great video. I see you don't use a torque wrench when putting the blade back on, despite the Ego manual insisting on it. I don't have one. Should I stress about it?
@DadsGarageDIY Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t stress about it. They do that for liability reasons. I have been changing them for years and never torqued one. Just make sure it’s plenty snug and periodically inspect it. I appreciate the kinds words. Just filmed a new Ego video last night. Stay tuned.

@@DadsGarageDIY well... I got new ego mower a few days ago, got in set on the lowest ground grass cutting setting and I noticed that it didn't cut as low as i wanted it to go again I had it at the lowest level it could go.. so, with that I was thinking about adding an additional blade for a better cut. This is a brand new mower that only comes with one blade attached .. just noticed as I was cutting the grass didn't go as low down as I would hope or like.. any suggestions?
@DadsGarageDIY3 жыл бұрын
@@g4orce703 I will go out and measure mine on lowest setting (blade to the garage floor) can you do the same? We can see if there is a difference. The lowest setting should be plenty low and even too low in some cases for a healthy cut.
@K03sport3 жыл бұрын
@@g4orce703 ...are you cutting a fairway or golf green? The Select Cut series (you got to spend more money) comes with the two blade system. Those blades are $40 to replace. My 2102SP cuts low enough on #1 (~1 inch). less than that almost seems like scalping and grass is unable to hold onto moisture....

In the ego manual and on fb I see mention of using a torque wrench to install blade but no mention of that here. I'm a novice with tools so I'm wondering if that is truly needed or if using drill is sufficient. TIA
@DadsGarageDIY2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim. That is probably a bit of a liability thing. They provide that spec on a lot of different things but in most cases that is overkill. I think in this case they just want to make sure it doesn't fly off. That would be a bad day. I have been changing blades on various mowers for 40 years and have never used a torque wrench. I have always just gotten it nice and snug. Never have had an issue. I normally replace mine or remove it to sharpen it at the beginning of each season. If you have a torque wrench and it makes you more comfortable go for it. I don't think there is a right or wrong here. I have a torque wrench and never have used it on a mower blade. To me the most critical things are wheel nuts, even spark plugs (so you don't over tighten and strip an aluminum head, or when you get into engine rebuilding. Sorry for the long response. Bottom line, get it snug and it won't be an issue. I appreciate it Jim. Love those Ego's! Best mower I have ever had.
@leadpipe3332 жыл бұрын
@@DadsGarageDIY thanks for the detailed and quick response. You've put my mind at ease that it's not really needed which is good since I don't have one. Now I just need to figure out how to loosen the factory tightened bolt which is immovable using a wrench or ratchet. Gonna try heating it with a torch like I've read. Thanks again!

Hi there took blade off 2 days ago - sharpened it and put it back properly i thought but when start it up lawn mower will move but blade doesnt. mower flashes a colour I call yellow but book says is orange. Now I am 150% mechanically challenged I will give you that. Tried 90 minutes 2 days ago to fix busy yesterday and have tried for another 60 today. What am I missing. Am I tightening too much ? not enough? Have I flipped something around.? Any help appreciated.
@DadsGarageDIY3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. My best guess is that maybe you left the washer off and because of it the blade is not tight enough causing the shaft to just spin inside the blade when it gets any resistance from the grass. That would be my best guess. If that is not it maybe the blade is not tight enough. Please let me know.
